Sick of buying inkjet cartridges? Now for the price of a set you can get a laser printer!

With a first page out in 10 seconds and 16ppm print speed it won't keep you waiting, and the consumables won't cost the earth.

Mac OS X, Linux and MS Windows compatible

I think this is a limited time offer, while stock lasts

Heck thats cheap. Black and white no doubt.

The price of the toner is more than the printer. Compatibles will cost you $60 while originals will cost you $80+. Am wondering whether this is so cheap as a result of the toner cartridge size. Its rated to 1500 pages. Thats not a lot for a laser printer.

I think the printer was reviewed recently in Australian PC User magazine. There was quite a strong ozone smell from it when printing (that is actually ozone - laser printers emit varying amounts of it). For this reason it did not rate well. Still, if it isn't right next to you or on your desk, it's a very good deal.

EDIT: This was NOT the printer with the ozone smell. The Samsung 1660 was reviewed and rated well. Sorry for my confusion :)

They don't, it's a byproduct of the high voltages involved in laser printing. Big copiers/printers designed for heavy use will have some ozone filters built in, but home/home office ones generally don't (but they don't generate as much due to generally lighter workloads).

This printer is $83 at DSE, which is worth considering if you're not in Melbourne. Also likely to be a similar price at your local computer store soon, if it isn't already.

I'd suggest that the printer is cheap because the ML-1660 has been released and there's still quite a bit of stock of the older printer.

I agree that the cost per page isn't great. There are printers with lower CPM for not much more, e.g. FXP 3124. Having said that, the ML-1640 is still an upgrade from an inkjet IMO. :)
