it would be good for the person taking it for a walk to be honest and credit the original posters efforts rather than just taking the OP's own words and copy / pasting - yes thats you barguy.

Hardly a suprize its SOLD OUT!!!
• creeno2008/02/20 09:27:41
I have been 'lucky' enough to score $1 accommodation in the past (I can't recall which website it was, but it was a big one, like Expedia or similar). Anyway, as it was such a blatant error, the hotel wouldn't honour it....so there were a lot of disappointed people out there!

I hope for the sake of the people here that the property does honour your bookings....
• lilpretzel2008/02/20 11:47:06
Well lets see what can be done about this!!

I'm going to look into this a bit further, I wonder the policy. :p

Unfortunately, this is not a valid booking.

The pricing on the website is incorrect.

Apologies and regards,

• Keeys2008/02/20 13:55:42
My parents got a phone call telling them it was a mistake and they wouldn't be charged unless wanting to book at the normal rate.

Look on the bright side the person who stole the info off here (and gave no credit), friends elsewhere didn't get any either ;) :p :p
• nod2008/02/20 16:48:28
Shame that they would not honour it but I guess that is what happens

It was fun while it lasted :D
• leny2008/02/20 16:51:12
Not good. :(
• admin2008/02/20 23:36:41
damn...... thats a shame.
• Gallifrey2008/02/21 01:13:42
bugger, yea it did seem toooo good to be true though, but there is always wishfull thinking LOL :p

7. DISCLAIMER

7.1. Accommodation providers can alter information about their accommodation, prices and availability at any time. We therefore cannot guarantee that all the information is accurate and faultless, nor can we be held responsible for errors or inaccuracies in the supplied information.
• admin2008/02/21 01:47:02
I suspect roamfree will be getting an antsy email from the owner :)
• Gallifrey2008/02/21 09:51:17
actually reading that disclaimer again it doesnt have any allowance for their typo, it only states if the info they were given was wrong!! LOL

I dont think it would work to push for them to honour the $1 per night though ;-)
• nod2008/02/21 10:47:44
I think you have zero chance of them honouring their mistake. Which is a real shame. I think that if they advertise a price and allow people to make bookings they should honour that booking. It is not good enough to just say ooops typo, sorry. I don't think the owner should foot the bill but I certainly think that Roamfree.com should as they made the mistake.
But hey ... it is not going to happen. :(
• kelandmal2008/02/21 10:54:15
I would've thought that the owner 'logs into' the roamfree website and makes any changes to their own establishment, pricing, conditions etc, roamfree simply provides the know how to put it all together and gives us purchasers a central website to go to. If that is the case the onus would be back on the provider and not roamfree, hence their disclaimer about accuracy
• nod2008/02/21 11:19:58
I think you are right Kelandmal
It appears that you can list your accom on the site
• lilpretzel2008/02/21 13:51:11

Here Here!!

They should follow Harvey Norman who in the pass have had pricing mistakes but honored our orders.

:D
• Gallifrey2008/02/22 00:46:29
looks like this place has withdrawn their accomodation with roamfree, I cant find them on their site anymore :-(
• lilpretzel2008/02/22 14:02:52
Yes! I received a email from the General manager of roamfree.

After they investigated the complaints received via email and were happy that the error was a human error not a system error and that the proprietors did not intend to willfully mislead consumers into believing they offered $1 accommodation.

However due to the stress and inconvenience this error caused they have determined to remove Park St Cottage from their site.

WOW ! I wasn't excepting roamfree to remove them from the site but at least give them a stern warning.

I still can't work out how somebody can stuff up 3 months of rates.

• Gallifrey2008/02/22 14:14:03
Poor Park St Cottage, hope they arent too upset.

Looks like a nice place to stay too, will keep it in mind for my next visit to Melbourne :-)

Well they got you! Without this, many people wouldn't have known about it. I insist that they should honour the rates because they got all this free advertising.
• nod2008/02/22 17:56:38
I think it is a real shame that they have removed their accom from the site. It is a bit of a dramatic thing to do.

I did not realise that they had 3 months of $1 a night accom advertised - that is one serious error. You would think there would be some sort of check system in place?
• Gallifrey2008/02/22 18:38:44
You would think there would be some sort of check system in place?

yes, a pair of eyes would have done the trick

Did anyone else get one of the following letters in their mailbox ?

I refer to your booking through Roamfree.com at the Park St Cottage, and to the email you received from the proprietor of the property advising that the nightly rate was entered in error and the booking could not be honoured.

Roamfree receives applications for listing from properties around the world, from major chain hotels to backpacker or B&B-style accommodation. We receive all applications in good faith, and put each through a validation process to ensure that each is a legitimate accommodation provider. As we are a search site, we do not manage the properties appearing on our system, nor do we provide our own editorial endorsement of properties listed beyond this validation process.

We are similarly deeply disappointed that an error was made by Park St Cottage when uploading their rates, which resulted in your booking being transacted at a rate of $1 per night.

After this error was identified, Park St Cottages was immediately suspended from sale on Roamfree.com while a full investigation of the circumstances of that error was undertaken. This investigation has been completed and we are satisfied that the error was a human rather than a system error. We note the property is a small two-room establishment, and we accept that the proprietors did not intend to willfully mislead consumers into believing that they offered $1 accommodation.

Recognising the distress and inconvenience this error may have caused you, we have however determined to remove Park St Cottage from Roamfree.com.

I'm going to reply and say - dont cut them off.

Sure the owner screwed up but I personally dont sleep well thinking that they may suffer as a result of it. Didnt cause me any distress that it was cancelled. Everyone makes mistakes and if the owners just a small business I reckon she / he deserves a bit of leeway and as much of a chance at success that they can get.
