I hate the quikshop site but they do have some pretty cheap prices on there. They had a pre-order wii deal (aust version) which was the best price around for ages.

    ta lilpretzel.

Hate is a strong word donkey :p

Yay. These discounts glued together make a very nice deal!
    Hottie vote!

Just ordered the canon a720is from these guys.

Tried to get Jb Hifif to price match MSY ($293) the other day, but they refused saying it was $20 under cost. Now I'm glad they did.

    Total price from Quikship 294.80 - 3% = $285.96 delivered + cashback. :D :D :D

So basically comes to $50 less than Jb's claimed cost price + free delivery.
    Very Happy with that.

I don't know specifically about Quikshop, but with cameras (and other electronics, I guess) you really do need to exercise a lot of caution buying online. Companies import overseas models (mostly from Asia) which do not have Australian warranties, and often have different specs than the models of the same number being sold in Australia. The standards of production also vary, as I am told by those in the industry. It is not uncommon to hear of people losing their cameras for 6 months whilst it's sent overseas under warranty claims - even if the (Australian) retailer you bought it from claims they will service the warranty.

Basically, you (OK, I) would need the company to be prepared to put in writing that I was buying a genuine Australian issue brand x, model blah blah camera, with an Australian warranty which will be honoured by your local service agent.

I just had a look on their site and it looks like they tell you most of this info - but it is presented in a very favourable light toward imports!! :)
  • nod2007/11/27 22:35:23
The most important thing is the warranty. If they state they will provide an OZ warranty then you should be ok

What is the warranty like Scatman00?
  • ScarletRubies2007/11/27 22:47:38
I appreciate that you think so with such vigor (to post three times!) :) j/k

For me, the warranty is far from the most important thing; I think reliable specs, quality manufacture, and consumer confidence rate at least as highly. After all, most of us would prefer never to need the warranty! If I buy a camera, I want to know that the model number I think I am getting is in fact the one I buy - not a unit with the same number but different specs. I want a camera I know I can use standardised filters and add-ons with. I want to know that the chassis is the one I think I am buying, the weight I think it is, and has the same thread on all the screws etc.

I know these things aren't really important to a lot of consumers, and I was just (on a different forum) reading about how some members of my community don't have a clue how to vote. Far more important! So, if you knowingly buy an import, and are aware of it, then what the hey. At least you didn't screw up your vote.

(I need an exploding head smilie).
  • nod2007/11/27 23:48:53
    Ok :o

    Sorry all fixed now

The voting thing I just don't understand either
  • scatman002007/11/28 05:30:29
The above is very true, especially for this store. However, they list which cameras are aust. stock and which are imports on their site..... so fingers crossed everything will be fine. At <300 thought it worth the risk.

The voting thing I just don't understand either

    I can't tell if you're joking! I hope you are... :)

I think our responsibility to vote is a really great privilege; I was getting a bit too involved in a conversation elsewhere with a *Tertiary qualified person* explaining (incorrectly) the electoral process.

And I will shut up now - it's a new day! :flowers:
  • nod2007/11/28 19:45:09
What I meant was I don't understand how people do not know how to vote :D

Sorry for the confusion. And I completely agree with you are our vote. It is a privilege and one that should be taken seriously
  • scatman002007/11/30 20:07:07
Recieved my camera today, was aust. stock :) Could not be happier with such a bargain.

Nearly 20% under JB's cost price, delivered to my door. FTW. :D
  • nod2007/11/30 22:18:52
Now Scatty you really need to learn to write these sorts of things up as deals you know :whistling:
  • scatman002007/11/30 22:30:26
Probably..... but then people would stop paying attention to my posts :p

I think we need a subscribe feature. So we can choose whose deals we have on high priority. :whistling:
  • nod2007/11/30 22:32:28
You can certainly subscribe to threads

Do you mean you would only want to see certain deals for certain merchants or deals posted by certain members? :D
  • nod2007/11/30 22:33:02
Probably..... but then people would stop paying attention to my posts

    aaawwww I am sure we wouldn't :D
  • scatman002007/11/30 22:35:34

Yep i know you can subscribe to threads, but it would be cool if we could subscribe to everything members of our own choosing list.
  • nod2007/11/30 22:47:35
    You can do that too
You can use the advanced search facility in the hot deals section
or you can click on the users name and then chose to see all threads started by that member

Or failing that you could always PM the member and ask them to add a special code or their username to their deal posts - ie via a tag
then all you need to do is either search for the tag label (this then can't be the users name) or you can simply click on one tag - using the FP is easiest for that - and all their deals appear :)
  • nod2007/11/30 22:52:31
or do you mean an RSS feed with only those members you have chosen?
  • scatman002007/11/30 22:59:48
Hmmm, maybe i should look into that further, are the RSS's emailed, cos i want mail as soon as my chosen members post a deal :p
  • nod2007/11/30 23:04:22
So you want mail only for the member you chose?
  • nod2007/11/30 23:12:02
Ok at this stage I can't make an RSS feed that has only selected members. BUT if you want to convert rss to email then you can do that is appears.
Google rss to email and quite a few sites will come up

    Eg http://www.sendmerss.com/

Or I am told that you can get a plugin for Outlook that allows you to read rss there

    That help?
  • scatman002007/11/30 23:13:12
So you want mail only for the member you chose?

Yeah, that basically what i was saying, i assume this isn't currently an option? Its sorta like signing up to every sites newsletter but without the crap deals... and also knowing your email addy ain't going onto a mailing list :)

...and to your second post... no, cos i'm too darn lazy to look ;)
  • scatman002007/12/14 18:52:06
Back on topic again ;) :

They have now raised their price by $32, since i bought it :D
