Harvey Norman - Samsung ES80 digital 12.2MP camera $38 online only (+$5.95 del)

This camera usually sells for $80-$90 and I would have said that it was an OK camera for that price but at $38 this is a great camera.

It has all the specs you would see on a budget camera but it also has certain features that are typically found on higher end products.
12.2 MP 2.4" LCD Screen Image Stabilization 5x optical zoom

This is a nice price, I would consider one for the kids...$80 would have been a bit too much.

I gave my little one a camera when she was 4 and it was amazing to see what she thought was important to take pics of and getting a glimpse of life through their eyes. The cat had so many pics taken that after a while he would pose for her when she got near him with the camera :)

Wow! They even have free pickup from store.

The camera has got decent reviews. I think I'll be ordering one :)

What an awesome price! Full tempted too... my little girl wrecked her old camera (I shouldn't have bought a camera for a 3.5yo back then). She's now almost 6...... Hopefully she can take care of her camera better!

I have to say that Harvey Norman have been putting out some decent deals recently. We just need some cashback with them now :)

I ended up buying 2 pink ones - getting them delivered. With the price of petrol nowadays, it will cost me more to drive to the store to pick them up (plus the hassle), esp when the nearest store is about 10min away (20min drive = my poor car and my poor purse)!

Will give the other one to her cousin for Christmas :D

    sold out :(
  • Pookie2012/03/23 21:15:04
Thanks femme17. That was quicker than I expected...I bet queenshrew bought more than 2! :D
Lets see what the next deal will be.
  • queenshrew2012/03/24 11:17:37
Hey I only bought two :(

Funny I was reading that people got their orders cancelled or were given display models when they went to pick up...

I paid for delivery..and I got a tax invoice and a notice that my order has been dispatched via Fastway...

Awesome! Very excited to get my 2 pink cameras! :D

Guess they are arriving on Monday!

    My cameras came today.
Brand new and sealed in the box :)
    Very happy.
    Thanks!

I had opted for Pickup as I have a store almost next door to where I work. They just called me this morning to tell me that they do not have stock of the model and have offered me the Fujifilm L50 instead (at the same price). Only other option being that I get a refund. So, I agreed. I dunno if I'm better off or worse...

Going by Dick Smith website, they are both about the same price.

The Fujifilm L50 is $67 and the Samsung ES80 is $68 on the Dick Smith website.

I guess, they are both basic cameras and in the same price range.

For me, I only like the Samsung ES80 cos it comes in pink :D
Unfortunately, not all the Samsung ES80 is pink.
Only the front is, the back is black too :(

    What a pain vipulrm.
The Samsung seems to be only just a little better then the Fuji but if you were going past a Dick Smith's pop in and get the exact specs on the cameras before you agree to their swap.
You can do a comparison on the DS site but it doesn't give a proper like for like comparison.

I would buy this one for myself!
The Samsung one is more a camera for my daughter who is still learning how to look after her things...(she is still not very good at it unfortunately)...

Yes, Pookie. I am a bit disappointed, too. I went in to the Harvey Norman store and spoke to the manager. He said that they had anticipated to sell around 200 pieces but have received order for 900. Obviously, they'll sell so many if they are giving them out for as cheap as $38. Why do these companies always grossly under-estimate the sales of these offers? And if they had only 200, how difficult it is to implement an inventory check on the website? I will never understand why they can't take some basic steps to ensure that the customers have a pleasant experience.

Anyway, I said I was OK to wait since I thought the Samsung was a slightly better camera (5x zoom compared to 3x of Fuji) but he said that Samsung has run out of stock and hence they cannot back order them. Nor can they tell when they would get more and if they would get them. So, looks like I am out of options.

Anyway, for $38, both of them are a steal. I would rather get a camera than a refund. They don't have the Fuji in stock too. So, I'll have to wait until the call me to collect it. I will speak to the manager again and see if I can get him to throw in a cheap memory card as a goodwill gesture. Will let you guys know how it goes. Wish me luck :)

Thanks for this, but I was looking to give this to my Son. And this one is a little too expensive for his age.

vipulrm, I just had a look at their online in-store stock checker and there seems to be some availability in Balgowlah. It may be an error but worth a phone call if you are near by.

    Thanks, Pookie!

This store isn't close by but I'll give them a call anyway. If they do have stock maybe I can coax my local store to have it brought in for me.
  • vipulrm2012/03/27 16:46:11
OK. I called up the Balgowlah store. They confirmed they have stock. So I went back to my local store. They said they will not be able to order them in as this is a deeply discounted product. They asked to call up the online helpdesk and get the pickup store changed.

So, I called up the online helpdesk. The lady told me that the store cannot refused to order it in and said she would call them up and have it arranged. I received a call from the store in under 10 minutes assuring that they will order it in for me and I should wait for their call.

    There... Done. Phew!
