A lot of the $3.95 DVD's are Region 2 but will play on multi-region DVD players, this is all I've been buying lately. Excellent Value.

These are great for the kids
Bratz - $3.95
Bratz: Bratx Baby Movie - $3.95
Camp Rock The Movie - $3.95

How can i tell if my player will play the dvds?
  • lilpretzel2009/08/27 13:58:32
Put your exact model number into Google and see if it is multi region or check the instruction manual or even on the dvd player.

That's all I can think of sorry.

    :)

Think most dvd players sold are now multi region.

I bought a cheapie player from Target for $40+ a few months ago and it can play all the dvds I have purchased online.. most were purchased from cd wow or chaos including region 1 and 2 dvds.

I bought some. We have 4 dvd players in the house so 1 should work - fingers crossed.

Many 'brand name' DVD players are NOT multiregion. We got burned by this recently. Even if you can find an unlock code/procedure, they often won't seemlessly switch between regions/outputs (NTSC vs PAL), so do not trust salespeople who tell you there's an unlock code online. If it's not sold as region free don't buy the player. Cheapies seem to be better in terms of either being region free or advertising their region coding (especially region free) on the box. Brand name DVD players aren't so good with that, if they bother at all.

Well, if it doesn't work, just buy a cheapie.. you won't regret the $ you spend.. even as a spare for your child. Think Deals Direct has some cheapies with free shipping (using the code posted on buckscoop).

Or your local DSE/Coles/etc. They often have surprisingly good cheapy DVD players that sometimes advertise quite a number of other playback types, too. We're still using our turn of the century Pioneer DVD player that was one of the first to be factory region free sold here - though back then you paid an extra $50 for it! :) Well worth it though as we order a variety of different region DVDs from all over the world (quite a number of them from cdwow)

DVD43 is good (and free) for PCs if you want to play DVDs from other regions without using up your 4 region changes on many PC/laptop DVD drives (they're behind the times, and indeed it seems like some manufacturers want you to have to buy a DVD burner to play each region you want to watch on your home theatre PC).
