Makes me wonder how many surcharges/taxes they'll put on top of the 5c.
  • ScarletRubies2007/11/20 20:24:34
Is the link a legit Jetstar one? I'm getting a security certificate warning...
  • admin2007/11/20 20:25:03
I thought they were limited to only charging for the taxes levied by the FAA ?
  • admin2007/11/20 20:27:50
its ok ruby - not sure why they are running a security cert on the site.

Some details out of the article.

However, the only flights on offer from Sydney are to the Gold Coast. From Melbourne - Tiger's homebase - the flights are only on three routes served by Tiger.
The tickets are also for travel in the low winter season, more than six months away and on selected flights on the low-peak Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday daytimes. The five cent tickets also entail a $2 credit card fee for people booking over the internet..
  • geo782007/11/20 20:51:36
yes, but the $2 cc fee is applicable for all online bookings and most of the flight sales are for low-peak weekdays, isn't it? anyway, $2.05 is extremely good in my opinion...

I think $2.05 PLUS taxes is a very good deal indeed.
Don't think you can complain. You would need to be flexible with your travelling times but that is a small sacrifice

    Hot vote from me Geo78
    great deal!
Will we need a special link tomorrow at 7pm??
  • ScarletRubies2007/11/20 21:16:19
Well, I am hoping that since Darwin-Melbourne is one of the Tiger routes, it will be one of the ones on sale - and then another leg back to Sunny or Cairns!!! :)

I am dreamign if I think I am going to be able to get my hands on 4 return tickets, right? Can you imagine - 20c for all of us per leg? Leg of a journey that is, not the number of legs we have each. Which is standard issue 2, just in case you're wondering!
  • nod2007/11/20 21:19:23
    LOL
The thought never crossed my mind :D
  • lilpretzel2007/11/20 22:07:57
Is this the offer that was for JetMail members?
  • gstok2007/11/21 00:02:51
Aussie flights must be advertised with taxes included so it'll be 5c INCLUDING tax..... me thinks this is because Tiger is about to announce another mega sale - isn't their first flight about to happen???
  • nod2007/11/21 00:35:03

I did not know that Gstok. Will be interesting to see what the prices are tomorrow
  • gstok2007/11/21 09:51:28
nod, from memory it was a recent(ish) legislation change. I tried to Google for more info but no luck! Unfortunately it only applies to domestic flights for now, but there is hope it'll extend to international ones soon. The changes were brought about to prevent "bait" advertising... e.g. $1 FARES*. You had to find the * in the fine print and realise it didn't include taxes of $60, or some such. Personally I won't be bothering with the JetStar deal - the server will just crash like every single other time, and my experience with them showed me that they're not worth flying with (unless you have hours and hours of spare time!).

I think you are right about the server

May I ask what happened on your flight?

    About time I say
  • gstok2007/11/21 10:04:05
nod, let's just say SYD -> MEL took 6 hours. And it wasn't peak! Lots of problems, lots of lies from everyone including the captain, and overall terrible service. So now it'd take a lot to get me flying with them again.
  • ScarletRubies2007/11/21 10:05:23
And they are absolutely inflexible on overweight baggage. Charge a fortune!
  • nod2007/11/21 10:06:30
    6 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mmmmm I understand why you are not keen to part with anymore cash
  • elegantegotist2007/11/21 10:09:45
Should I bother with this ? $2.05 is very appealing.

I applaud how pro-active Fair Trading are but can also understand when the rep from Jetstar says that there's a flip side to cheap tickets and thats inflexibility. The only problem I have is that where do you draw the line at cheap vs normal. I personally think the power Qantas wields in the Oz market is obnoxious and they and their offshoots should be slapped around the head for keeping prices artificially high on the 90% of standard flights which aren't budget routes.
  • lilpretzel2007/11/21 17:18:21
Are we taking bets on how long until the server melts?

An update (or did I not read it carefully before?):

The five-cent fares, which include taxes and other charges, will go on sale from 7pm to 11.59pm (AEDT), and come as competitor Tiger Airways prepares to launch its operations in Australia.

Jetstar spokesman Simon Westaway said the fares, offered on a seven of Jetstar's routes, are a bonus for travellers.

"We believe this is the lowest all-inclusive air fare ever offered in the domestic market in Australia since domestic air travel commenced," Mr Westaway told AAP.

The fares will only be offered on seven Jetstar routes - Sydney to the Gold Coast, services from Melbourne to Hobart, Launceston and Newcastle and flights from Brisbane to Mackay, Rockhampton and Newcastle.

Only members of Jetstar's Jetmail e-mail registration program will be offered the ultra-low fares, which will be available only on selected days between May 3 and June 3, and from July 29 to September 9, Mr Westaway said.

Important update: it will only be available through an email sent out to those registered with Jetmail. to register, please go to http://www.jetstar.com/edm/index.php?pop=true&ref=five
  • ScarletRubies2007/11/21 19:05:29
Has anyone managed to secure any?
  • gstok2007/11/21 19:07:09
I think everyone's either waiting for the email (which can take many hours) or for someone to post the link required. There's reports the servers have already crashed.
  • lilpretzel2007/11/21 19:08:06
    Is booking system is down.

    No email

  • Hooray2007/11/21 19:21:54
    From the Jetstar home page:
"Unfortunately, we're experiencing some technical difficulties..."
  • ScarletRubies2007/11/21 19:21:59

    JETSTAR'S UNBELIEVABLE 5 CENT SALE
Hurry and book your 5 cent airfare now! There are only 5,000 seats available from 7.00pm tonight or until sold out.
Limit of 4 passengers per booking.

For travel on selected flights (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays only) between 3 May - 3 June 2008 and 29 July - 9 September 2008. Subject to availability. Flights are one way, web only.
  • gstok2007/11/21 19:25:49
You'll just get a "Method Not Allowed" error. Don't waste your night people - Tiger is bound to have a great deal by the end of the week, and their servers won't go down. Enjoy your dinners....
  • voteoften2007/11/21 19:31:16
This is ridiculous. I am going to find out who has jurisdiction on this. I know WA has a consumer protection department. I left work early for this sale. Now I find an email is required and I have not received it, even though I joined specifically for this sale. I joined 4 days ago.

I ma definitely going to pursue this. The consumer protection departments are major pains in the ass for companies and they are very nearly a law unto themselves. JJet star has brought this on by pursuing promotion of this deal and getting people to sign up to access it. Now they have not delievered. They are not even answering their phones.
  • ScarletRubies2007/11/21 19:36:27
You're seriously going to let it bother you that much, even though they've said there's 3000 seats, and there's 5 squillion people after 50 seat each right now?
  • Keeys2007/11/21 19:40:15
I an get through but it won't let me do it without insurance which is still cheap but then you can't pay any other way than cradit and my card is maxed out :(
  • geo782007/11/21 19:40:54
this is to see what routes are available: http://www.jetstar.com/jetMail/5CentSale-16Nov07/index.html
  • voteoften2007/11/21 19:43:32
Yes, actually it does bother me that much. I took off early from work, where I am a volunteer worker. I ma a volunteer because I believe in the cause I support. These people said they would send an email and they have not. They have deliberately misled consumers in order to get promotion for themselves. Before they make an announcement of this sort, they need to triple check everything. Failure to send the email is utterly unacceptable. It is the only way in which this deal can be accessed. I don't care how many poeple are trying to get the deal. The fact is that they have failed to provide the p[romised conditions. They have received their reward for the promotion - good publicity - but have not delivered the actual goods. In my mind, that is basically dishonest.
  • Alfacat2007/11/21 19:43:39
No luck here either - have given up trying after half an hour solid. Keep getting error message. Was waiting for my email but it didn't arrive. 5 cent seats probably all sold out by now anyway (if anyone could get on to site, that is). Will wait for Tiger.
  • lilpretzel2007/11/21 19:48:01
Unfortunately, we're experiencing some technical difficulties, and Jetstar.com is temporarily unavailable.
Our technicians are working on the problem, and we hope to have the site up again as soon as possible.
    We apologise for any inconvenience.

    What's new!!
  • fairybelle2007/11/21 19:48:03
yep i cant get a seat either... very frustrating... Congrats to those who did though
  • nod2007/11/21 21:30:41
They really need to sort out their servers before they offer these sorts of sales
But it may actually work in their favour - less super cheap tickets they need to hand out :D
