Buckle up annual pass.... is that a membership thing voteoften ??
      • Gallifrey02/04/2008
admin.... ~I thought the same, but when I rang them it was just the code to use, it wasnt for any annual membership!
      • admin02/04/2008
        :) - thanks

Those are just the string of words you use to get the discount. I have annual passes to two of their parks and this is probably a promo aimed at annual pass holders. Obviously anyone can use it.

I've never been to this whats it like is it worth the cost? Seems like alot for a couple of hours even with a meal.
      • Gallifrey07/04/2008
I have heard it is really good and worth the money, even if you arent into horses!!

I might be going within the next 2 weeks, if I do I will post a review right here :-)

I thought it was good value, but I lean towards valuing entertainment/experiences.

You get a hat, a meal and your drinks. Drinks are wine, beer and soft drinks.

With the 20% off, you are paying about $75 for adults.

Here is how they milk you for more money. They tell you to get there earlier than you need to. They nearly force you to have your photo taken, which they will then try to sell to you, after a couple of drinks. They make you wait an inordinately long time in a middle holding area which is just a big bar. They have flashing cups that the kids MUST HAVE, for about $7 or $10. Of course, nothing in the bar is free. You have to pay for all drinks, including soft drinks.

We went to an early show that they were having in Oct school holidays. We went directly from Movie World at 430 as instructed. I bought my angel a flashing cup, which she forgot at the show. The wine was okay. I had a beer as well. I declined the photo. I buy heaps at the theme parks and take even more, but don't want any with me in them.

I thought the shows were good value. If they have early shows again in July we will go again. If they do not, we may still go again. For me, the biggest factor is the hassle of getting there. I really don;t want to drive that stretch of highway more than one round trip a day. The normal shows start at 7 or later and the theme parks close at 5....

One think we found to be a lot of fun was the Dracula's kids show on Saturday arvos. For $29, you get a very small amount of crappy party food and see a show. The best part is the last third or so of the show when all the kids get to go up on stage and sing and dance. Great photo opportunity there..... Some of the kids (older ones) were scared of the Ghost Train ride that gets you into the building. My 5 yo loved it and wanted to keep doing it.... I am considering taking her to the evening Dracula show on one of our next few trips there.

wow, that is great feedback voteoften, well done!

Typical of them trying to get you to spend more ;-)

Check the age for Draculas at night, they had an age limit when I rang them a few years ago!

they have the Dracula show in Outback Spectacular? poor Dracula...needs to travel so much from Transylvania...it's a 24 hours flight :)
      • Gallifrey08/04/2008
no it isn't in Outback Spectaular
      • voteoften08/04/2008
It's down across the street from Pacific Fair. In Broadbeach.
      • geo7808/04/2008
        ok. thank you
      • voteoften08/04/2008
I guess the bottom line is that my advice is that you should go. Go "late" though unless you want to be stuck in the overcrowded bar and listen to country music.

        Thanks for the review :)

We aren't going to the GC for a while but have heard so much about it. I just wondered if its like alot of things your hear about that are over rated when you see them.
      • ScarletRubies08/04/2008
I've been to the GC about 6 times in the last 4 1/2 years, Keeys, because my girlfriend moved there. I think parts of it are lovely (the south end, which is wear she lives) and the hinterland. There's tons to do without getting into Surfer's Paradise, which is where most of the "action" is. It's cheaper down south, and you can still do a theme park or two. I think the theme parks are insanely expensive, and because our kids are really little, we've only done Dreamworld so far, which has the Nick Jr stuff - as well as some fun rides for mum & dad! We'll do Wet and Wild one summer, or the new WaterWorld at Dreamworld.

Depends on the kind of holiday you are after, but I think there are heaps of places in Australia far more wonderful than the GC (although lacking in the best friend! :)). I'm dying to get to Fraser Island with the kids...
      • Keeys08/04/2008
We've been to GC for the last 3 years for holidays so thought we'd have a change of pace an head south to Melbourn this year. I haven't been to Melbourne since I was 6 ;)

Thinking maybe GC again next year so kids who will be 11 and 14 by then can go to wet and wild which we haven't been to before and so younger one who will be 2.5 can see the wiggles area of dream world hes wiggles MAD!!!

I'll be in Brissie in June however to see Michael Buble ;)

Michael has a saying at his concert......

He'll "pump up every womans tires and get her ready to be ridden all night long" PMSL

Been 2.5 years last weekend since I saw him last, so can't wait!!
      • ScarletRubies08/04/2008
ew!!!! Oh, Keeys... he talks trash! That won't look so cute when he's as old as Mick Jagger or Tom Jones (or -gag- Keith Richards!).

I need to rinse my eyeballs now after reading that!!!

        :)

And aren't you heading off sans hubby for these gigs?

Your not alone Ruby - the price is pretty staggering.
