Motorola Launches Three New Phones and They’re Coming Down Under

Motorola recently announced the details surrounding its latest 3 launches. All you Motorola fans out there can look forward to the new Moto X Style, Moto G and Moto X Play hitting our shores. The Moto G will be the third generation device released by the company whilst the other two will be new additions to the family. If you are looking to upgrade or simply change handsets, then September is the ideal time to do so as this is when they're being launched.

I'm sure that some of you will be aware that the Moto G is one of Motorola’s best selling budget phones and happens to be one of the company’s champions. Actually, the Moto G has featured in numerous blogs and reviews around the world for being one of the best budget-conscious top picks on the handset market. So get the low down on what these phones have to offer and when they are due to hit the market.

Moto X Style

Motorola’s Moto X Style is the company’s flagship model that offers the most powerful performance and looks great whilst doing so. This handset is almost identical to the ‘Pure Edition’, which is available in the United States branded simply as the Moto X. One of the biggest selling points about this phone overseas is the fact that you can choose the colour, material and finish of the phone before its shipped. The only problem is that this service doesn’t exist in Australia (yet?).

However, we’re not completely limited here in Oz, because the phone will be available in Metal, White and also Bamboo. The basic specs for this phone are:

OS Android 5.1.1 Lolipop
Hard drive 16 / 32 / 64 GB
Battery 3,000 mAh
Front / Rear Camera 5 MP / 21 MP

The other great thing about this device is that its IP52 certified water resistant, which basically means it can stay underwater for up 30 minutes at a maximum depth of 3 feet.

To give you an idea of its size, this phone has 5.7 inch screen which is the same as the new Samsung Galaxy Note 5 or Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus that's just been released.

The only limiting factor is that Motorola have signed a deal to launch this phone exclusively with Vodafone for the foreseeable future. The Moto X Style will cost you $83 per month on Vodafone’s $80 Red Plan. There have been rumours that Vodafone could also sell the phone without a contract, but no price has yet been mentioned. Expect to see it on Vodafone shelves next month in September.

Moto X Play

The Moto X Play has been designed to sacrifice power performance in exchange for better battery life. All the specs have been cut back slightly from the Moto X Style such as the RAM, processor and camera, but the phone still maintains a 5.5 inch display.

In exchange for this sacrifice you receive a bigger 3,630 mAh battery, which if used sensibly could give you up to 48 hours of use. Even though the battery is slightly larger, overall the phone in general is lighter than the Style. The phone will be available in either white or black and again, unfortunately, only Vodafone will have the rights to sell if for the foreseeable future with no mention from Motorola about when it will be distributed through other retailers.

OS Android 5.1.1. Lollipop
Hard drive 16 / 32 GB or MicroSD (up to 128GB)
Battery 3,630 mAh
Front / Rear Camera 5 MP / 21 MP

There is some light at the end of the tunnel, however, as Motorola have announced that they will release a variant of the Moto X Play through other retail partners at a later date. Therefore if you don’t want to go with Vodafone, I reckon the Moto X Play’s “variant” could be lining itself up to be a nice Christmas present.

Vodafone have the Moto X Play available on their $40 Plan, which will end up costing a total of $45 per month for the term of your contract. They'll have this handset up on sale for customers to buy without a contract for a price of $569 though. There will be a dual-SIM option as well, we are just unsure about the release dates at the moment.

Moto G (2015)

This 3rd generation Moto G is the latest update of the company’s successful budget phone. It comes in bright colours, has rounded edges and over all is a very cheerful, upbeat-looking phone. Don’t let the cheerfulness miss-lead you though because the phone still packs a punch in terms of performance.

It's been built with Gorilla Glass 3 to protect its 5-inch screen, which is the same as the previous 2 generations. Besides being able to take the odd knock or two, Motorola has also made this model IPX7 water resistant. This is great because when companies try to cut costs, unnecessary things like water-resistance generally tend to get cut. The specifications are not bat at all either, as the table below represents.

OS Android 5.1.1. Lollipop
Hard drive 16 or MicroSD (up to 32GB)
Battery 2,470 mAh
Front / Rear Camera 5 MP / 13 MP

Motorola Moto G Customisable Colourful Back CoversYou can select the Moto G in either black or white as the two basic colours, but if you feel more adventurous, you can select from a range of bright colours. There are two different colours you can have on the back, the main covering back shell, and also the Motorola strip from the camera down to the Motorola sign.

The great news about this particular model is that it will be available to everyone in Australia. The cost of the handset will start at around $369 brand new, but certain retailers may host a variety of promotions, all of which you can follow here on our Buckscoop Deals Page as and when our deal hunting community come across the top offers.
