As if it's not exciting enough that The Lion King remake will be hitting screens this year, we're also getting a Lion King edition of Monopoly in coming weeks - with sound effects!
It's been 25 years since the world first fell in love with Simba (yes, that long!), and with so much anticipation for the long-awaited remake, you can count on a barrage of Lion King gear hitting stores in coming months. It goes without saying, though: a Lion King edition of the world's most-loved board game is next-level epic.
Same Monopoly premise, but extra Disney appeal
The aim of this game is very much in line with most Monopoly editions: make your way around the board buying as many properties as you can, while paying rent to other players when required, and trying very hard not to go bankrupt.
But in this Lion King edition, properties are based on locations within Pride Lands, Community Chest cards are replaced with Destiny cards, houses and hotels are replaced with grubs and beetles, and player tokens take the form of Simba, Timon, Mufassa, Nala, Pumbaa, and Scar. (And we just know that everyone will be fighting over the Simba token.)
And then there's Pride Rock...
While the artwork looks ready to transport us straight to Pride Lands, and the golden character tokens are insanely cool, it's the introduction of a music feature that really sets this edition apart from others.
With one press of the yellow button, the Pride Rock plays music straight from the film! We're not sure exactly what songs are included at this point, but prepare yourself for a lot of singing as you buy up the board.
The rock also provides a very handy place to store the Destiny Cards.
