A Roundup of the Best Online Dinner Deals in Adelaide

This week I'm turning my meal deal attention to Adelaide in the search for the best restaurant offers from the top daily deals sites. Finding the right combination of good value for money whilst still getting great food can sometimes be tricky, so I've gone and done the research for you and come up with a couple of good suggestions.

The restaurant deals listed in this post are brought to us via Scoopon, LivingSocial, and OurDeal. Outlined are the details of each offer, along with the reasons why they offer such good value for money. I’ve also thrown in some customer reviews, tips on how to maximise each experience as well as what sort of discount you can expect compared to the regular a la carte menu prices.

Scoopon – All-You-Can-Eat Indian BBQ Buffet with Wine

Scoopon All-You-Can-Eat Indian BBQ Buffet with Wine The Snake Charmer

Our first mouth-watering deal is from The Snake Charmer Indian restaurant (in Unley), which is offering an All-You-Can-Eat Indian BBQ Buffet with Wine at $39 for two diners. To put its value for money into perspective in relation to their a la Carte menu, you can see their full selection here. Although, I have broken down the deal offering below to show you what is included within the rotating all-you-can-eat menu:

Course 1 – A rotating menu of roasted meat, curries, salads and more – eat as much as you want.

Course 2 – Dessert platter containing 3 sweet treats plus a daily rotating menu of Kulfi, Gulab, Chai, Panna Cotta, Jamun, Mango mousse and more.

Dinner Meal Deal for two dining in Adelaide CBD

Including one glass of red or white wine per person.

This deal is not regimented to particular courses, because the restaurant gives you the freedom to choose and eat as much as you want from its selection. The choice that they give you will change throughout the month but you can be sure to enjoy some of the following:

  • Lamb Kofta curry
  • Beef madras
  • Malai Tikka chicke drumsticks
  • Butter chicken
  • Goat durbari
  • Squid sambal

Along with the abundance of choice above, diners will also be able to fill their plate with as much fresh naan bread and rice as they choose. Four vegetarian dishes will be available everyday, chosen by the chef. Sauces, 4 different types of salad, 2 chutneys and pickles will also be available to accompany the meal.

This deal is valid from 8th December 2015 to 8th March 2016. A 48 hour notice period is required to change a reservation.

What Customer Thought

Tripadvisor rates this restaurant with a solid 4 out of 5 stars in all of its major rating categories. Over 75% of diners have either rated The Snake Charmer very good or excellent.

Numerous customers were pleasantly surprised with the amount of food that they received with the Scoopon meal deal, especially as they thought it was so cheap to begin with. Other customers complimented the restaurant for providing so much choice, both in meat and vegetarian varieties. Generally across the board all customers seem to be very happy with the Snake Charmers cleanliness and polite staff members too.

A few customers did mention that due to the food being in buffet form, that some dishes weren’t as hot as they would have liked, in which case you should ask for your meal to be heated up if you come across this.

Customer Tips

Customers who arrived as soon as the doors opened found that not all of the dishes were ready and were left with the choice of eating what was available or waiting for all of the dishes to be complete. It’s advisable to arrive at least one and a half hours after 17:45 if you would like the entire buffet to choose from for dinner.

Prices with the Adelaide Scoopon Voucher

To get a close estimate to the proportion of food that a couple would receive in the buffet, as well as the amount of choice, I have decided to choose 2 starters, 3 main courses (2 meat, 1 vegetarian), 2 rice dishes and 3 naan breads and sauce from the a la carte menu.

  • 2 people: $39 (vs. $95)
  • 4 people: $75 (vs. $190)

Their meal deal on offer is an eight-course degustation for 2 for $98, or four people at $196. If you want to check out the delicious menu at Ai Fiori, click here. What Customer Thought

95% of the customers who reviewed the Ai Fiori on tripadvisor were pleasantly surprised at the great value for money on the eight-course degustation meal. Customers seemed to love the atmosphere as well, due to the building being an old bank with tall ceilings and an essence of grandeur about the place. All degustation customers not only complimented the variety of Italian food included, but also the effort that had gone into the presentation of each dish, which made the entire experience that much more enjoyable.

Customer Tips

Numerous customers who used the meal deal vouchers commented on the restaurants great value for money. If you were to dine without the meal deal you may find that the prices are quite steep in comparison, with most menu choices exceeding $20 mark.

Prices with the Adelaide LivingSocial Voucher

To closely resemble the eight courses, I have selected the same or as similar as possible to what Ai Fiori have on their a la carte menu to represent the cost saving with this voucher.

  • 2 people: $98 (vs. $196)

Our Deal – Two-Course Asian and Wine

Our Deal Two-Course Asian and Wine Penang Malaysian & Chinese Restaurant

Certainly the cheaper option of the three, this two-course Asian dinner can help keep the costs down for a cheap meal out in central Adelaide. Enjoy food and wine at the Penang Malaysian & Chinese Restaurant for two people at a cost of $29 or for four people at $49. Situated on Gilbert Street in the CBD, this establishment offers a large selection of most people's favourite Thai dishes on its menu. To get an idea of what your Thai meal deal will include, below is a brief snapshot:

Course 1 – Vegetable spring rolls and satay chicken to share

Course 2 – Choose a main dish from the chef’s special menu (sizzling or vegetable)

Course 3 – Two servings of steamed rice

Each person will receive a glass of wine to accompany his or her meal, from the choice of Jim Barry Riesling, Montana Sauvignon Blanc or Willowglen Shiraz. Also be aware that all signature dishes will carry a surcharge, payable to the Penang kitchen. Where this restaurant lacks in atmosphere it clearly makes up with its good quality food and value for money, as represented in numerous tripadvisor reviews.

What Customer Thought

Customer reviews varied on tripadvisor and whilst the majority of reviews were positive, it seems that Penang Malaysian and Chinese restaurant has had a few off days where staff were overwhelmed by the amount of customers. Whilst reference to the food quality amongst reviews appears to have remained positive overall, the lack of staff on busy nights did increase waiting times. However, more recent reviews (within the past 6 months) have been either 4 or 5 stars. So it would appear that the negative reviews have taken onboard by management, who appear to have responded well to prior customer dissatisfactions.

Customer Tips

Customers who have eaten at the restaurant before say that dining-in gives you better value for money compared to taking the food away.

Prices with the Adelaide OurDeal Voucher

To give a fair comparison of how much you would save compared to not using an OurDeal voucher, I selected the same vegetable spring rolls and satay chicken, two mains from the chef’s special section and two steamed rice portions plus two glasses of wine (wine prices weren’t on the website so I chose $8 per glass) to replicate the price from the a la carte menu. The prices are represented below:

  • 2 people: $29 (vs. $54)
  • 4 people: $49 (vs. $108)
