We wine lovers all got a bit (over) excited about Penfolds' promo in July, offering a Vintec wine cabinet at over 50% off current market prices (with savings of over $300) when purchasing 6 bottles of their Bin Series or Luxury wines. These savings more than made up for the fact that the deal was intended only for the very patient, as you were expected to allow up to 16 weeks for delivery on the wine cabinet.
However, if for some reason you missed out on this promotion but did happen to buy any of the wines listed in the comment section of this deal during July, then there is good news in store. Start looking for your receipt as claims can be still submitted until the 14th of August 2014 to get the 35 bottle Vintec cabinet for $255 with delivery.
For anyone else who didn't buy any of the applicable wines during last month, there's still an opportunity for you to take advantage of the Penfold-Vintec promo offer if you either live in New Zealand or have relatives over there (making you one of the odd Ozzies who mingles with the Kiwis :P ). The terms and conditions are the same with the only minor differences being the price and cut off date. New Zealand residents have until the 17th of August to purchase any 6 bottles of the participating Penfolds wines to be eligible to get the Vintec wine cabinet for NZD $299 including delivery.
As far as I can see, the Vintec cabinet (V30SGME) which you'll receive through this promo is not for sale anywhere in the country. However, other 30 bottle Vintec wine coolers are listed at various sites starting from NZD $1199 (kitchenthings.co.nz). In Australia you can find the Vintec at Appliances Online currently selling for $579 with free shipping.
And as for which wine to get, it seems that you can get a pretty decent deal in New Zealand on the same one as I which I chose as the best buy in Australia back in July. The 2011 Penfolds Kalimna Bin 28 Shiraz is on special for $24.95 a bottle at Moore Wilson's with delivery charges of a maximum of $9.95 per case, which can be as low as $2.95 for habitants of the Wellington region. Factoring in the $9.95 for delivery, the total would work out at $159.65 vs. the next best price I could find for $187.94 delivered at The Good Wine Co.
Elsewhere such as Direct Liquor, WineSociety and Countdown for example, the case of six would cost you over $200 with shipping. Note that in this paragraph all prices are quoted in NZD.
If you're just into the wine and can manage to live without the cooler, the best deal available on the 2011 Penfolds Kalimna Bin 28 Shiraz in Australia right now is from First Choice Liquor priced at $28.50 each across any 6. Dan Murphy's seems to be out of stock, while other stores such as Vintage Cellars and WineMarket are charging $35.99 and $36.99 a bottle respectively for this premium red.
