Where You're Likely To Find The Cheapest Copy Of Destiny PS4 In Australia

If you’re a gamer or know someone who is, then you have no doubt heard about one of the biggest releases of 2014. If you haven’t, well you should have because we posted about it a few months ago. Its called ‘Destiny’, the best-selling new video game according to sales reaching US$500 million on its first day alone.

Not surprisingly, despite all the hype around this game's release, it appears as if many retailers are banking on overwhelming demand for it and therefore seem uninterested in competing on prices initially. Good thing though is not all of them are in this frame of mind. As the pricing figures below demonstrate, there is almost $32 difference between the cheapest and most expensive retail offer. Also, you may be able to get this game online even cheaper from international retailers, but you will have to put up with a 2 week delivery time, which can feel like a lifetime in gaming terms.most eagerly anticipated video game to hit the Playstation4 and Xbox One platforms. So to help all of our Buckscoop gamers, here is a short break down of all the retailers in Australia and their Destiny game prices, to ensure you get a hard copy of Destiny at the best possible price.

The Prices

Our research team at Buckscoop HQ has found that when comparing all of the retailers in Australia selling the game, Target currently works out to be the best value for money, as opposed to Mighty Ape who comes out as the most expensive. The prices below are for the retailers who currently have the stock available and in their stores to buy today:

  • Mighty Ape:                      $99.99 (both PS4 & Xbox One)
  • EB Games:                      $99.95 (both PS4 & Xbox One)
  • Harvey Norman:                $88 Xbox One OR $98 on PS4 (Vanguard Edition)
  • Big W:                              $74 (both PS4 & Xbox One)
  • JB HI-FI**:                        $69.95 (both PS4 & Xbox One)
  • Dick Smith:                       $69.98 (both PS4 & Xbox One)
  • Target*:                             $67 (both PS4 & Xbox One)

*Based on our own prior experience as well as regular conversations seen on large chat forums, Target are known for listing a sale price on this type of popular game title launch, only to follow up afterwards saying they will also beat any competitor's price by $2-$3.

**There's also the possibility of getting the best price from JB HI-FI by signing up to the free trial of their JB HI-FI Now Music streaming service. Doing so gets you a 20% off voucher that can be put towards games, which should allow you ot purchase Destiny for around $55.

The remaining companies mentioned below do not have the game available yet, so you'll either need to pre-order the game or get it shipped internationally with a minimum 1 week delivery time.

  • Ozgameshop:             $65.99 (both PS4 & Xbox One)
  • Zavvi:                        $91.64 (both PS4 & Xbox One)

So what about the gamers who are not too fussed about having the game on the day of its release, and would like to spend a little less? Well you can hunt around online over the coming weeks and probably find it for slightly cheaper, hopefully saving you somewhere between $5-$10.

However, if you’re a savvy saver, a Buckscoop tip would be to wait at least a month to see how the market receives the game, rate it and of course how these factors affect the price. Gamers will know that waiting at least 6 months with PS3 games will usually see the price drop by roughly 50%. Our research on one of the largest gaming networks IGN also confirms our suspicions about price drops.

But beware, there are some differences we would like to make you aware of, whether your an experienced gamer or new to the ‘Next Gen’ platforms of PS4 and Xbox One.

Points that may keep prices higher:

  • Currently there are very few PS4 games available = Less competition between titles.
  • PS4 and Xbox One consoles are selling well which means there is more demand for games.

Points resulting in Price drop

  • Dropping sales resulting in retailers wanting to get rid of their stock and replace with better selling stock.
  • More titles being coming available, making stock older and less valuable.
  • Time: The longer the game is on the shelves the lower the return on investment for holding that stock in store.

So baring these points in mind, the PS4 and Xbox One games may not drop price as quickly as their PS3 and Xbox 360 counterparts. We would expect to see some price drop within the next 6 weeks, but within such a new gaming arena, we wouldn’t expect to see the same drop as we have been accustomed to with the slightly older consoles. We will keep you posted on all changes within the market for Destiny and other popular games. So be sure to check back here for any new coupons or deals on your latest games.
