Epson LabelWorks LW-300 - why ridiculous (and drop) shipping kills an awesome deal.

I recently posted this cashback promo from Epson on their LW-300 and LW-400 label printers.

The offer of $30 back on the LW-300 got me thinking that you must be able to use this on a bargain price to get the printer for virtually nothing. Who wants to pay $60 for a label printer. $10 maybe..... So I started checking around. Getting excited I found a good price at 4 different places. It looked like I might be able to get the price down to $10 after the Epson cashback.

What I dug up, in order of price are the following stores:

Epson LW-300IT Spot - $40.31 and in stock. - $40.34 and in stock

WAComputers - $40.47 and in stock.

Printer Supermarket - $42.16 and in stock

We were doing hunky...... and I figured they should at least have pick up in one of those places to avoid shipping. What I found made me laugh.

It Spot, Tech4U and WA Computers all have slightly different pricing and overall layouts but identical item descriptions and the exact same shipping blurb page. The similarities are so much so as to happily say they are all the same merchant. Of course pick up isnt available and shipping, the only option, is a 'bargain' at $15.95. WAComputers.... right..... maybe WA refers to Western Alberta or something.

That left me on Printer Supermarket. Maybe I can still get that $10. Nope... they were happy to sell me the label printer for $42 but it was going to cost me $33 to have it shipped. Thats a mighty impressive price for a location thats 100% owned and operated in Australia. So impressive the shipping charge equates to 78% on the cost of the item.

One day I'll lose my naivety. In the meantime its back to the drawing board. Otherwise a good promo Epson. Can any of you beat that 78% on top shipping cost on something you've bought ?

Well, I haven't bought something with a big shipping cost as when it's that high, I just close the browser window. However, I did wind up paying 41.5% in 'taxes and service charges' (that weren't really taxes, and weren't apparent) from a dodgy restaurant in Venice, which is still pretty bad.

"I just close the browser window" I should have..... It just frustrates me that you can have good shipped from England cheaper than you can get them shipped domestically within Aus - part fault of the high postage costs and part an industry accepted practice.

What do you think?
