HP touchpad $99 16Gb $149 32GB from 2pm today

22 August 2011

Just saw this online in the Australian.
HP are dumping their stock of HP touchpads (similar to the fire sale over the weekend in the US)

Not the greatest tablet in the world but certainly cheap and cheerful

What a bloody bargain, went to my local HN and got mine for $99! They only had 3 left.
  • QuirkyKiwi
I went and they were all sold out so I recruited three friends who all had no luck apart from one, who went saw the 32gb versions (in abundance in his words) but after reading the packaging and the internet stories about HP HE decided that I really didn't want one and put the ones he had picked up back!!!! ARGHHHH!!! I really want one now! I believe a port is in the pipeline so that it can run android!
  • QuirkyKiwi
I believe that the port might just be a 'I really really wish someone would port this tablet over to run android" and it most likely won't happen!

For those that missed out and don't want to pay the ridiculous prices on ebay at present. I have managed to put an order through from the states for 3 of the 16gb versions. It appears that they will cost me in the order of $125 each landed cost but that not too bad in my books. UPDATE order has now been cancelled before being fulfilled...no touchpad for me I am not too worried about being stuck with webos...and given the sheer number of these tablets pumped into the market over the past few days I am sure there will be solutions for some of their shortcomings. Even as a portable digital photo frame, media player etc they are worth it. If anyone is interested in the process I followed to order from the states I will post them. QK

Out of stock on the ]US store and BestBuy as well.... amazing crash & burn. Don't ever recall anything like it... even the ]3Com Audrey lasted for 6 months before going to the remainder bin. The TouchPad might not have been up to the iPad in many areas, but it did/does have some ]really interesting features that made it stand out. Sad, really. As for running android on it... well, don't know... but certainly not an impossible task, as it's WebOS is basically ]running on top of linux. Worse case, would be able to put ubuntu on it. But frankly, I'd just leave it as is..... perhaps leave one in the box. Will become a bit of technology history!

I would love to know where you got one QuirkyKiwi!! I so badly want one, just couldn't get out to the shop quick enough with the kids all asleep.

Me too....I have ended up not getting one as the orders I placed in the states have been cancelled this morning. I normally wrk close to HN in my local city but yesterday I was in a different role and was unable to get away. I rang the HN when the deal went live, the salesperson said just come down this afternoon there are over 100 of the 32gb versions here and you'll have no troubles getting one!!! Chuckle.

Any rumors about these going on sale again? What do you think would happen to all the stock left over?
  • admin EDITOR
    Unlikely I'd have thought

    Which stock left over?

:) - yea there's probably back orders from hell at that price

Sorry I didn't mean the stock left over. I have just been reading heaps of info online about how HP is going to meet "unfulfilled demand". I think their manufacturers have got the shits because after a couple of months of manufacturing they pulled the plug. Anyway, I hope it's not only for the US because I would love to get my hands on one of these tablets for only $99. http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/239177/hp_touchpads_second_chance_offers_officereadiness.html

What do you think?
