perhaps the biggest question mark with these TVs whether you might have trouble getting them repaired outside of the warranty period...

Why the hell would you want to do that? In 2 years you'll probably have LED screens for this price! And if not, a 42" HD LCD wouldn't cost more than $700 new....

I thought when your TV went kaput, it was difficult to get it repaired - even with the big brand names AND under warranty. But hey, oleglap, you're on the money - with the speed of new technology, there no doubt will be a bigger & better quality version out there in a year or two. :)

to me, the idea of deliberate obsolescence and throwaway culture in general is an unfortunate part of our modern consumer culture, and one that cannot be sustained on a global scale... http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/03/12/throwaway.culture/index.html http://www.grist.org/article/grossman1

most of the components in nowadays TV are universal, a good repairer should be able to repair. (9 times out of 10 it is a capacitor which is faulty) But We have all missed our chance to get one of these great TV, they are already sold out in Melbourne...

are you saying that you know that it's definitely a "great TV"? do you mean it's great for the price, or that it's great compared to other TVs with similar specs, irrespective of price?

What do you think?
