TomTom Via 220 GPS $137 + shipping (BONUS 3 Years Map Updates) @Harvey Norman

13 May 2012

I have to say that the 3 year map updates would make this TomTom worthwhile buying. I am personally sick of my outdated maps but refuse to pay $50 to update as it is only valid for 1 year. Basically, if you look at it that way, you get the TomTom unit for free if you intend to update your map for 3 years in a row!

Are the updates (lack of) really that bad queenie? I sort of figured, so long as they give you the most current version, updates were pretty superflous. Not that I've ever had a gps. Google maps does me mostly!

Oh it really is extremely frustrating when it makes you drive all the way to a road that has now been closed off and has been converted into a tollway and make you pay toll just to get on then off at the very next exit!!! Due to my awful sense of direction... I took the tollway about 3 times on 3 different occasions before I wised up.....argh!!! :(

I've got an older TomTom (maybe 3-4 years old). Always stuck with the original maps that came with it because of the ridiculous upgrade cost (which I think is more like $75). Finally had a trip to Sydney and some driving there so thought I'd buy the upgrade. Had a thunderstorm and couldn't get a signal until I was well on my way out down the Hume Hwy! Bought a Garmin with lifetime free maps. Sold it because it was awful - bad GUI and dim screen.

You don't seem to have very good luck with your GPS lol :D My dad had a Garmin too. He hated it! It was always in his glove compartment unused. He uses his iPhone navigation instead. I however prefer my TomTom. Best thing I have ever purchased (for someone whose sense of dir is so awful)... But I have to say that my outdated maps are driving me nuts
