Some interesting stats (interesting to me :) ) If you were to use the 2.9% finance offer to buy yourself the basic Toyota Prius and you want to finance the whole lot ($37,000) the loan will cost you the following over the max 48 month loan period. With 0% balloon. $2105.12 With 10% balloon. $2222.60 With 20% balloon. $2372.69 With 30% balloon. $2522.78 With 40% balloon. $2672.87 Thats just the cost of taking out finance at the Toyota rate. Then assuming the car depreciates at a rate of $98 a week (RAC Victoria's published rate on a 2008 prius), your $37,000 car will be worth $26,713 at the end of the 2 year period. This roughly means that your car will have cost you the following. With 0% balloon. $12,391.76 - or $119.15 per week With 10% balloon. $12,509.24 - or $120.18 per week With 20% balloon. $12,659.33 - or $121.72 per week With 30% balloon. $12,809.42 - or $123.17 per week With 40% balloon. $12,959.51 - or $124.61 per week Once you find that palatable you need to calculate in the running costs of the car - insurance, mechanical, fuel etc. I like new cars but they're just horrific when you total up what they cost you.

I think they had 1.5% finance earlier in the year for the hybrid range (for personal customers only)

What do you think?
