EBAY AUSTRALIA Buckscoop ALL FOR CHARITY fund LIVE AGAIN!!!

30 September 2007

Ebay Australia is now an active merchant on Buckscoop.
However, as the merchants page states, we are unable to offer any form of cashback on Ebay. So we have decided ALL CASHBACK GENERATED WILL BE DONATED TO CHARITY

Since it will be your sales or registrations on Ebay that will be generating the cashback, we decided that it is you that should decide on the list of Charities.

SO WE ARE CALLING FOR ALL MEMBERS TO SUBMIT A SUGGESTION FOR A CHARITY. WE WILL NEED 12 AS WE ARE GOING TO BE DONATING TO ONE CHARITY EACH MONTH.
AT THE END OF EACH MONTH WE WILL ANNOUNCE IN THIS THREAD THE TOTAL OF OUR DONATION AND CONFIRM THE CHARITY.
THE ONLY RESTRICTION IS IT MUST BE A REGISTERED AUSTRALIAN CHARITY

So let's start the list below.

Excellent!! My choice is The Australian Cancer Research Foundation - http://www.acrf.com.au http://www.loyal.k12.wi.us/forum/images/smilies/36_1_40.gif ** I posted my choice in the other thread as well nod PLUS what's the minimum requirements for the $10 USD? **
• elegantegotist
This is so wonderful I am 100% behind this ! Help yourself to a bargain and help a charity at the same time ! $10 is for each new registration through buckscoop 20% is from the final value fees for each completed transaction via buckscoop. Please correct me if I'm wrong but this is what I interpreted from the ebay merchant section. Can I just ask is it Ebay's rule that the cashback cannot be given back to the purchasers ? My vote goes to BEYOND BLUE - the national depression initiative. They help people with depression, anxiety, postnatal depression and bipolar. A very worthy cause in my opinion. http://www.beyondblue.org.au/index.aspx?link_id=11

Excellent choice elegantegotist, been and still there :( Is it also posiible to have a section to place links to our auctions? Sorry I'm very excited over this idea, I've got some stuff I was going to put on ebay today but will wait until further info is posted :w00t:
• Rick
My vote is for Variety, the best children's charity.

Hey Rick Welcome to Buckscoop. If you guys can pop your charity ]here
Is it also posiible to have a section to place links to our auctions?
Sorry Lilpretzel, we wish to keep the forum clean of ebay links.

Hello Rick, I see you've been lurking for a while. Good to see you posting!! Welcome to the spend-fest that is Buckie!!

Re the 20% this is actually 20% of the commission that Ebay normally keep from each sale - so what they charge to have the sale occur on the site And yes it is Ebay that stipulate that they do not allow any cashback in any form. If we do they will boot us off the program. But we can list them and donate all the cashback to charity. And guys if you are in the giving mood or know someone that is thinking of sponsoring a World Vision child read ]here It does say 10c but you have to ignore this - it is the only way we could get the software to work properly. But I can guarantee that the total $45 will be donated back to World Vision
• Smarmie
Fabulous idea guys! Can I suggest the Ride for Youth, which each year conducts a charity bike ride from Albany to Perth in aid of Youth Focus - they help young people, especially those in the country, deal with depression and those at risk of suicide? My husband is doing the ride for a second time next year in April and I'm sure this great cause would greatly appreciate the donation!!
• Keeys
Can I ask a question my email account for ebay is totally different from my ebay account (I use hotmail for ebay) Its also in my hubbies name. Will this still pay out then ? I'd hate for my purchases (way to many of them) or sales to not count :( Some suggested charities.....Royal Flying Doctors, Make A Wish, Starlight Foundation, Guide Dogs, Red Cross, Childrens hospitals, Legacy, The Salvation Army, Rhonald McDonald House and 1000's more they are jusy what cam to mind. My pick of these would be Guide Dogs. We actually have alot to do with them for our 9mths old and they have been fantastic. They work with more than just guide dogs for each person with a dog there is aprox 120 with a cane. Our son will momst likly be one of them and from the age of 3 mths we have been reciving support. Having said that there as so many worth while causes out there.
• Emma EDITOR
I don't think the email addys you are using would matter, as long as you click through the BS link, all the tracking is based on the buckscoop cookies, not email adresses or account names, afaik. I'm sure Nod will confirm this later :)
• lilpretzel
Decided to make a new account to receive the US$10 cashback, I can't believe I was able to score lilpretzel :w00t: ummmm now what was I looking at buying :whistling:

Hey keeys, Jayne is correct Your login details will not affect the tracking of the cashback. All you need to do it to remember that you click through from Buckscoop to pick up the tracking cookie. And one thing I think I should have said is that can we keep it to one charity idea from each member
• nod
Thanks guys I think what I will do is stop once we have 12 and then maybe draw the order they appear in out of a hat. SO far we have: 1.Aust Cancer Foundation 2. Diabetes Australia 3. Beyond Blue 4.Ride for Youth charity 5. ASCA 6. ADRA 7. Guide Dogs 8. ... So we have 5 more charity suggestions. Once we have 12 I will make up a draw type thing and pull the names out of the hat for their order But if people could post suggestions for the charity in ]here, it will be easier to keep track
• lisss
This is such a lovely idea :) I buy a lot on ebay so I will definitely be logging in through bucky every time I buy something!! The only problem is that sometimes I use sniping programs, so I guess those wins wouldn't count!
• nod
I am not 100% sure I am afraid Lisss I will see if I can find out though But regardless, every little bit counts :)

Hot vote nod. Great idea. My vote is with the starlight foundation

Old Fred can take up the number 9 position. So we have 3 more suggestions before we have our 12 quota Thanks Holdenmg
• fairybelle
another good one is http://www.openfamily.com.au/

That means we have out 12: 1.Aust Cancer Foundation 2. Diabetes Australia 3. Beyond Blue 4.Ride for Youth charity 5. ASCA 6. ADRA 7. Guide Dogs 8. Salvation Army 9. WWF 10. Fred Hollows Foundation 11. Starlight 12. Open family So over the next few days I will randomly decide the order in which the charities will appear in our donation list. Now all you need to do is go shopping at Ebay and make sure that you click through from Buckscoop first :)
• fairybelle
sounds pretty good nod considering im a ebay junkie.... so when does it start from? NOW?

I nominate beyondblue which is a national, independent, not-for-profit organisation working to address issues associated with depression, anxiety and related substance misuse disorders in Australia. http://www.beyondblue.org.au/

Not sure whether you've ]read this thread lindanat - apart from what Jayne has said - we've got 12 charities - cancer foundation is one - that will be getting your ebay transaction monies over the next year. I think its fantastic that people are keen to participate.
• fairybelle
Hey Admin do you get to find out how much we are donating to them... like a tally?
• admin EDITOR
We'll keep you posted --- regularly...... :) - $10.08 USD so far this month...
• Debz
This is a great idea, well done Buckscoop.
• fairybelle
ok, im confused... how much per transaction do we get to donate?
• nod
We give to the nominated charity for that month a total of 100% what we get paid from Ebay. That is $10 per sign up - if they shop with Ebay within 30 days and 20% of Ebays cut of the sale for eg if Ebay would normally charge $10 for an item sold then we are given $2 that we then donate to charity
• Keeys
I have 8cents going to charity thus far lol
• admin EDITOR
:) - 8 cents US - which used to be worth 14 and is now only 10. But having said that - it all counts.
• lilpretzel
I have US$10.11 to donate so far. :D
• nod
As Admin says, every little bit counts. Once we all start using Ebay we will have a nice little total that we can send on to charity.
• Emma EDITOR
fairybelle;18787
ok, im confused... how much per transaction do we get to donate?
In addition to what Nod said above, it means the amount you are giving depends on what you buy. Obviously if you buy a car on ebay, then ebay are going to be charging the seller a big whack of a percentage of the final value fees, so it would be 20% of that.
• admin EDITOR
The $10US for a sign up is a good amount I reckon. Interesting that they can afford to pay 10 bucks for a newbie sign up. Its a good indication of how much they reckon you'll earn them over the lifetime of your involvement.

The Order for our charities: 1. Guide Dogs 2. Salvation Army 3. ASCA 4. Cancer Foundation 5. Fred Hollows Foundation 6. Ride for Youth 7. ADRA 8. Friends of Fletcher Foundation 9. Diabetes Australia 10. Starlight Foundation 11. WWF 12. Beyond Blue 13. Open Family 14. Variety I know that we had said 12 but I have checked and we have had 14 suggestions so far so here is the listing. Each charity receives the cashback generated via Ebay for that month. The first month is now, October 2007. So please remember that if you are going shopping at Ebay, please click through from Buckscoop first so that we can make the most of our charity donations. 100% of the money we receive from Ebay will be donated to charity
• randomlychaotic
I know you've finished the list, but I wouldn't mind seeing the RSPCA on there
• nod
Hi Randomlychaotic Welcome to Buckscoop :flowers: We love it when newbies start chatting on the board. The RSPCA could certainly go on the list. At this stage we have our charity list up until November 2008. So we can tack them in sometime after that. You up for a game of Bingo on Tuesday night Randomlychaotic?
• wheadle
Have to second the excellent list Nod. I think you could be there forever though with all the worthwhile charities out there. We could have ebay covered up until 2012 ;) Can we keep suggesting them?
• wheadle
Welcome from me too Randomlychaotic. Hope you enjoy the place

I have not logged on for a while and I think this is a really good idea. Well done :)

This is good timing. For the month of october ebay have upped their cashback rates. They've gone from offering $10US per new confirmed sign up to $15 and the percentage on each transaction has gone from 20% to 28% Soooo - this months recipient is Guide Dogs for the Blind. I have a close friend who's legally blind - although she's not up for a dog blind its still something I'm keen to support (:D although I'll probably say the same every month). The bond that forms between dog and master must be phenominal. Anyway - so far this month we're at $10.19 US.
• lilpretzel
Oh cool but mine is only showing US$10 for new membership. I joined on the 30-Sep-07 but my 1st purchase was on the 3rd Oct I think. So does the US$15 go on your purchase date? :D
• Keeys
Guide dog helps over 100 vision impared people for every guide dog out there, so alot goes on people don't see. They have been a huge support to us in the last 6mths when we found out our baby had a vision imparment. We can't thank them enough for the support given. :) :) OK off to spend ...what a wonderful excuse to spend up big...not like I need much encouragement hehe ;)

Yes - apparently. The $15 is for confirmed transactions during Oct - backdated. So your sign up falls just on the other side but your transaction falls into the higher rate.

I've got a friend off to (Adelaide??) to get her new dog in a few weeks - she's off next week and back in about 4 or 5 weeks. Can't wait to meet him/her/it... Hmm... in case it wasn't obvious, it's a guide dog she's going to pick up.
• nod
LOL I was a little perplexed when I read the first line Ruby :D The owners have to go through quite a bit of training before they get their dog don't they?
• ScarletRubies
She's got to spend three weks with her dog before she's allowed to bring it home... which is a fair bit of time I guess, but no where near as much as what the dog has to go through! :D You know, one of my favourite things about owning something/someone is the thrill of naming it. Blind people don't get to name their dogs - it's a bit like a Cabbage Patch kid - they come pre-named!

http://bestsmileys.com/bumping/3.gif Just a reminder re our Ebay link This month 100% of funds raised via our Ebay link will be donated to charity - this month our Charity is Guide Dogs for the Blind Every little bit helps :flowers:
• admin EDITOR
We're at $20 or so for the month so far. Not huge but it takes a while for people to build into clicking through when they make a buy. A good way to think about it is that by clicking through on here before putting in your bid or joining up, what your doing is forcing ebay australia to take a small amount of that enormous profit they'd otherwise be making and give it to charity.
• ScarletRubies
Maybe you can have a sticky in each subforum, or a link from the front page? I don't use eBay often, but will be very happy to link through BS on my way.

• admin EDITOR
Ok - Ebay for October ..... grand total for Guide Dogs for the Blind from last month is $21.12 US. :D not huge but it all counts and that was the first month of Ebay. Be great to see more money heading their way as we build momentum. Whats surprising me at the moment is how much money ebay is making on its transactions.... thats one heck of a lucrative business. We have no qualms in the slightest about providing people with a mechanism to channel a relatively small chunk of what would otherwise simply line ebays already greasy pockets, to charity. So anyway - hint - each new member that signs up and buys something within 30 days generates $10US for your charity of choice. And 20c in every dollar of the profit ebay makes off your transaction also goes to charity. Tell anyone you know who buys or wants to buy on ebay to click through here first and make ebay pay some of thier profits to a good cause .
• fairybelle
Im trying my best to make purchases through here ... think im up to $3.36? thats pretty good! im impressed

Can I nominate the Defence Special Needs Support Group, they look after the familiy members with Special Needs who have serving Defence Force members. i.e. Special Needs Kids and spouses of serving defence force members. www.dsnsg.org.au they are a registered not for profit charity with tax deductible status
• admin EDITOR
You certainly can ruthiech80. I think they'll come in at number 14 on the list that we have (might be a wee bit more) but it takes a while for people to build momentum on stuff like ebay so later is better in this case.

Hot hot hot! Too bad I stopped shopping through Ebay though. This is an excellent deal.
• admin EDITOR
Why did you stop shopping through ebay.
• admin EDITOR
For any of you wondering why your ebay transactions have suddenly jumped to 'declined' - its because we need to 'decline them' to put them out of reach of our payments script. We did have a bit of a boo boo last month where 16 payments were made by mistake. To those of you who got a wee bit extra - merry christmas. To the charity we had lined up to receive the money - we're pay it ourselves. By the way the number of ebay transactions is going up each month which is fantastic. Keep it going. Send some of the ebay profits to the charity of your choice :)

Why did you stop shopping through ebay.
I just generally wasn't happy with the hassle - then the used things that gross me out etc. I am more than happy to pay extra to get brand new items from stores. It is understandable that some people can't always do that though. I used to be a mad ebay shopper. It's an addiction :whistling:

Ebay has completely changed their cashback links and system. We are in the process of shifting over to the new system but we need to work on the new links. So I am afraid that we may need to halt the Ebay program for a few days/weeks until we can get this all sorted. The links we have at the mo will end 2359 tomorrow :)

still waiting. We just need to tweak a few things to get the links to report all the information we need. As soon as we know what we can and can't achieve we will let you know :)

Im going to say id like to Beyond blue to be picked, for a few reasons, I suffer from PND myseklf and have done so for nearly 2 years. But mostly because on the 13th August 2007 my cousin took his own life leaving behind a girlfriend and a young son.. This was only weeks before his 18th. My cousin never showed any warning signs, he hid it all really well. So please can we pick beyond blue to help reduce teen suicide

So sorry to hear that chloe :flowers: If you go here ]Ebay Charity progress for the month you will see that Beyond Blue is this month Charity. So far it's at $30.36 :D

A new suggestion: ]Ovcare National Cancer Centre - One woman dies every 11 hours - 1500 women are diagnosed each year and of those, 800 will die - There are no overt symptoms of early stage diseases or early stage detection tests (unlike breast cancer & cervical cancer) However Ovcare National Cancer Centre's research team has had a breakthrough in developing new detection tests but they don't have the press & funding that breast cancer does so I think it'd be a great charity to donate towards!
