I had to look closely at that picture you posted lilpretzel - I thought it was parsley at first. Dont forget that this is all just a bit more sillyness - and there will be no blood.

We all seem to be lacking a bit tonight. I'm still recovering from a bug and didn't think I'd last out til now, so only hoping I don't nod off half way through.
  • ScarletRubies
Excellent! If we're all staggeringly thick, I could be in with a chance!!
  • craftykiwi
May have to rename the title of the comp then?
  • ScarletRubies
"Not the brightest, but the best we could come up with at short notice"? Not as punchy!

  • admin EDITOR
No - ones brighter than me
  • ScarletRubies
How'd you go, Crafty? Is this an appropriate time to moan about my carpal tunnel syndrome, and the fact that I can't type as fast as I used to before I got my new job as a full time mum?
  • admin EDITOR
I'll try to answer the questions
  • ScarletRubies

Speaking of bottoms, I don't like my computer chair anymore. I'm going to head to the lounge room, lick my wounds and tell my husband I didn't bring home any bacon today. I might get the sack.
  • craftykiwi
No, no Scarletrubies. You've brought home more than the bacon in your house. Twins beats a tote bag hands down any day. Just wait til you're holding them in your arms.
  • golfwidow
Hope the lounge is better for your poor behind ruby. Not long to go now i think? The twins are sucking all your brain smartness. The joys of pregnancy! :)
  • craftykiwi
Talking of the other end I need to get my head off to my pillow - good luck to the others taking part.
  • ScarletRubies
Long enough to go, guys... I am counting on at least 10 weeks. Anyway, having been told I got number 9 wrong (I want a DNA test to confirm paternity!!! My husband told me the answer to this one), I'm going to call it quits. Mr. Ruby is objecting to Nod's adjudication! He's telling me *why* she's wrong - I think this conversation could last a while!!! Night all!
  • nod
Sorry that you did not know what was happening tonight Bt34 :( I did pop up the info a few days ago :) We have one random winner: Wally but waiting on more info from one Buckscooper and we have one $5 voucher left :)
  • craftykiwi
Hadn't thought of that Wally - but I do appreciate your help back then.

Babbage was the one who laid out the concept of a 'computer' in the ground rules that were later used to actually make a computer. But yes is usually referred to a the father of computing. I can even remember the text book at uni that had him in it.

Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker 9. Charles Babbage 10. Pelvis 11. 97 12. "The new kid is a person too" - all the others were written on the blackboard by Bart on the opening credits of "The Simpsons" 13. Albert Einstein - the others have airports named after them[/SIZE]
  • Wally
I probably would have said Von Nuemann than Babbage and maybe not have got Einstein question Did Crafty get 13 correct out of !3?
  • nod
Yep she sure did :) There are a few people that question who was actually first but Charles Babbage is the one that traditionally took the title the father of computing :)

I'd like to thank my agent (Wally) and my brother (Donkey) ..... Many thanks for the congrats. Do I have to change my avatar now? Not sure if there's room on the forum for 2 Donkeys/Asses and I don't want to steal Donkey's limelight.:whistling: (And I kind of like my wee avatar now.)
  • craftykiwi
    nod;52911
    Yep she sure did :)
Had to dust the old mortar board of at the bottom of the cupboard. Funny how all that knowledge we had to accumulate for exams all those years back now only comes in handy for trivia quizes these days, having side-stepped career to become a Mum.
    nod;52911
There are a few people that question who was actually first but Charles Babbage is the one that traditionally took the title the father of computing :)
Helped by a school project my son did a few years back all about computing and Babbage known as the father of .... Wasn't sure about that hip one - thought 'pelvis' was too everyday a term but couldn't think of anything more scientific (maybe trying to read too much into it as my old English teacher used to say!).
  • ScarletRubies
In this paternity dispute, there's a few men stepping up to claim - my hubby (general superhero and comp programmer) says it's Alan Turing [1912-54, thanks Google] (and told me why, but really, I switched off at some point after he said the name) and there's the suggestion it's von Neumann [1903-1957 - crikey these geeks died young] or Atanasoff [1903-95 - okay, some geeks die old]. Congrats, Crafty. Hey, wrt your avi, are you an ex-scout, a scout mum or just a supporter of the centenary of scouting or whatever it is this year? At least, I've always thought your kiwi was wearing a scarf and woggle.
  • craftykiwi
Didn't look that closely Scarletrubies so didn't see the scarf. Not a scout, but was a brownie many moons ago and daughter is now a guide and they wear scarves too so accidently appropriate then?
  • bt34
Congrats to crafty for the win. And thanks to nod and lilpretzel for running the quizzes.
  • nod
hehehehehehehe Ruby :D pop in 'father of computing' in google and it come up as Charless Babbage as the father of computing ... a bit down the page they have Turin as the father of programming science. Slight difference I know but they are different And you guys are more than welcome. I enjoy putting the games together as much as you seem to enjoy playing them :)

You could probably sum up the babbage / turin / von neumann / antanasoff argument by saying babbage was the father of computing because he came up with the mathematical engine from which a computer is derived. Alan Turing is the father of computer science because he was the one who implemented a mechanical version of babbages difference engine in what became knows as the first computer. Von Neumann is the father of the computer bus architecture which is still used today. Atanasoff might be called the father of digital computing as he came up with an electronic version of a 'computer'. In any case computer / s / ing is a bastard child of four fathers.

All the vouchers have been purchased (apart from Crafty - still deciding) But I see that I have not received correct confirmation emails for all vouchers so it may be a replay of our previous voucher run with DD. If anyone has not recieved their vouchers within the next 24 hours please pop a post in here Thanks :flowers:
