Google Voice - Free calls to the US and Canada until 2011

Google have opened up Google Talk so you can use it to make calls to normal landlines & mobiles with your computer. For the remainder of 2010 all calls to US and Canadian numbers are free. Yep, free. When you setup your account, you get some credit - somewhere between $0.10 and $1 (depending on when you signed up I think). Doesn't sound like much, but call rates for other countries (like Australia or the UK) are around the $0.02 mark per minute, with no flagfall. Some people I know have got $1 when they signed up, I just got ten cents - but that ten cents gives you a five minute call to the UK, so better than nothing...... and did I mention the free calls to the US?

I was greeted with the following message when I went to the link.

Google Voice is not available in your country.
Thanks for visiting Google Voice. We're not yet open for users outside the US, but are planning to expand our service to additional countries in the future.

I saw a guy talking about this on Sunrise - and he said you need to set your computer location/language or something to English (US) - so worth changing your computer settings and trying again

you have to change the Gmail settings to English (US). Log in into your Gmail account - Select Settings (top right) - under General, go to Language and set it to English (US)
