If you got in in time, it's gas for your car.

Is LPG the same as petrol ? What kind of cars use LPG ?
  • ozpete2007/11/22 10:25:14
    LPG is Liquid Petroleum Gas

Sorta like what you find in a BBQ gas cylinder

You need special conversion to your car to make it work like a Gas Cylinder to store the fuel, a gas mixer (a sort of gas carburetor), and installation.

You will see a small red shaped diamond on a cars number plate to indicate it runs on LPG.

Most LPG cars are capable of running petrol and LPG although some fleet cars are LPG only.

You'd know if your car has it as it has a big gas tank in the boot

So can I fill up my BBQ gas tank with this voucher ? I'm going to need it this Christmas period.

Same product as far as I know, but the way it is dispensed is different - vehicles have a special bowser; obviously a different valve size to a gas cylinder. I don't know if this voucher restricts eligibility, but I would imagine it does.

LPG conversion costs between $1500-$2000 I think (might be regional), but it is an advantageous fuel for a few different reasons. It's considerably cheaper than standard petroleum, I believe - not having done ANY research but listening to a few folk over the years. Lots of taxis use LPG for economic reasons.

You cant fill up a bbq cylinder that uses a different liquid gas - propane - which runs cooler, as Brad said the connections are different and its "illegal" to fill them - or at least very unwise.

If you have a car then the govt will give you a rebate of $2000 for conversion. (the actual costs are now 2-3000 depending on vehicle )
