doozerberry has a spectacular Buckscooping aura about them
A friend of mine joined Costco, and so off we trundled yesterday to "check" things out. Admittedly, we spent $250, BUT was overall disappointed.

The things we purchased were:
2 x CF 4gb Cards = $63.00
1kg of salad mix for around $5
800g sliced champagne ham - $6
800g sliced chicken roll - $9
1kg of Ranch dressing - $10... YUM!!!
Carman's Muesli Bars - box of 18 for $10
Some Fibre Fit muesli bars box of 24 for $14
1kg fizzy cola lollies $10
Tortilla wraps 2 x 8 packs for $7
White King Bleach 4.5 ltr - $5
A wooden chopping board with bowls $33 (as a gift)
1kg strawberries for $7 really nice ones
Box of 20? HUGE cupcakes - $20
2 x 1.5kg Beechworth Honey - $20
30m? of Glad Bake - $22
Vitafresh 45cm x 600m cling wrap - $18
Something else I cant remember LOL....

With the cling wrap I could've gotten 30x300m? Glad Wrap for $20... but decided to go the other one which was better value.

I didn't find the fresh meat cheap at all, but they do offer some premade pastas and stuff at a decent price. Cant say how good they are though. There premade pizzas looked popular, looked around the size of a Family pizza for $15... but then, you have to cook it yourself.

You can buy a BIG birthday cake, cream filled and topped sponge, reminded me of being about the size of a a3 sheet of paper for $27. Would be really good for parties and stuff.

There are some bargains to be had on some of the more obscure items like office chairs, but only good if they have them when you're there, and you need one!

TV's I didnt think were that cheap... and the clothes, well... you could buy an Ed Hardy tshirt for around $60 and CK jeans for $50. Which is fine if you're a label junkie, but I prefer to pick up REAL bargains.

Toilet paper was either sorbent or I think Cottonelle, and I really didnt think they were that cheap... around 50c a roll. As they aren't my preferred brands I didnt pay ALOT of attention.

I noticed a big tin of Nescafe 43 for $14.99, which you can get for that price on special in the supermarkets.

50 kilos of Basmati rice was $50. Good value - if you'd ever get through that much rice.

They had a box of 8 x 14 pack Kotex Ultrathins pad for $30. Which seems ok... BUT if you're like me, you take advantage of the Kmart 3 for the price of 2 sale. At that sale I got 9 packets for $30 which is better value.

The packaged deli meats seemed good value, they come as 800g packs, which is made up of 2 x 400g vacuum sealed pre sliced meats. I have a vacuum sealer so I seperated the packs into more appropriate portions, and sealed them up and we will put some in the freezer.

I also noticed some of the chocolates were quite cheap, as in Lindt balls. Would be good if you were making hampers at Christmas.

I think also, if you had kids then you could pick up further bargains. My friend bought Florida Fruit Nuggets??? I'm not sure, but they might be like little fruit bites (we used to have like Bellis Fruit Bars). They were around $10, and she said to get the same amount it would cost like $20 at a supermarket. Oh also Moo Cheese... that round cardboard cheese with individually wrapped segments inside. You got like 3 of those for the price of 1.

In the liquor section we didn't think much of it. 1ltr of Southern Comfort was $40. Carlton Natural Blonde $37 and Pure Blonde $40 a slab. We did think some of the wine prices were ok, like $10 a bottle for Brown Brothers Dolcetto Syrah and $13 for Gulf Station Wines. (We didnt look at the really pricey ones!)

In all, it was interesting for a looksie, and would consider going every 4-6 months for a look and to top up on other stuff. The main thing is just to know your prices when you go in. (A lot like Campbell's Cash and Carry). Also, do your sums. Work it out down to pack prices, or individual prices on things. Then compare to what you can get those items for elsewhere. As we are all bargain hunters on Buckscoop you will find that a lot of the time we can get them cheaper elsewhere.

Only other way to do it would be to get a group of friends together, like a mothers group or something, and then look at buying some of the REAL BULK items, like the rice. If you had 10 people to divide that between, it would be a GREAT buy! Even then 5 kgs of rice is a lot!
