VALENTINE'S meal - Fraser Island. Cruise, Wine, Meal @ Seabelle

5 February 2008

Are you lucky enough to live on/near the Sunshine Coast (or be there for Valentine's Day, anyway!). This sounds like an evening to die for...

Seabelle's Chef de Cuisine Cory Griffin said his team had married traditional bush tucker flavours with the freshest local ingredients to create a romantic dining experience.

"This Valentine's we've packaged Seabelle's signature dishes - moist-baked Barramundi in paperbark and sizzling saganaki King Prawns - amongst others, into a stunning three course menu."

"And to finish off the evening - our layered honeycomb and wattle seed white chocolate mousse is the ultimate Valentine's indulgence."

Priced at an attractive $85 per person, including return catamaran transfers and bottle of bubbly, romance is sure to be in the air come February 14. Cruises depart from Urangan Boat Harbour at 4pm and 7pm; returning 8pm and 11.30pm respectively.

Phone 1800 072 555 to book.

I'd like to know more about the food. Am just wondering how you cook barra in paperbark without getting that fine dust/wood coming off it. Wattleseeds are nice. Little bit like chicory. Thanks Ruby.

I agree, wattleseeds are yummy. I don't think I know what chicory tastes like... have a friend who grinds wattleseeds for cooking - v. nice. As for cooking with paperbark, I haven't done it myself, but it's a fairly common way to BBQ isn't it? We often use banana leaves with fish. I ♥ Fraser Island; this evening just sounds perfect to me. As compared to being up here, with kids, potentially watching the telly!

I can understand bananna leaves as they're glossy - was more just wondering about that fine dust that you get coming off paperbark. I guess though that once you wash it it'd be fine. I can see how it'd be a great steamer.

:o Are wattle seeds just that? Seeds from the wattle plant?

Well, wet and windy doesn't sound that great... and yep, wattle seeds are the seeds of the wattle. :)

What do you think?
