New Scientist Mag: 4 Print Issues for AU$9.90, then 13wk Subs. for $49.95
I know this might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I absolutely love reading New Scientist - the articles are great & it gives my brain a run for it's money. It's also a mag meant for the general public, so it is mostly understandable to us novices. Plus, because it's a weekly, I've usually only just finished my previous issue when my new one arrives (I think I'm in love!!!)
I found this deal by accident - it's NOT on the normal subscription page: I decided I couldn't afford a proper subscription, so I was just going to buy one article online. I clicked the buy article button & was shocked to find out it was $10 for 1 article... until I read that it would also get me 4 print issues at no extra cost & I could continue with a quarterly subscription (13 issues) for $49.95 (the quarterly sub. costs $80 when you go through their normal subscription page).
I worked it out & realised, when you put all 17 issues together, it was only costing me around $3.52 per issue (less than half the $7.50 news stand price). So I went for it.
You also get full access to their online archive of 15 YEARS worth of articles - my head spins just thinking about it - WOW!
Also, If you try it and don't want to continue with the 13wk subscription (after your first 4 issues), the welcome letter tells you how to stop it before it happens (ie how to cancel it)
Again, it's not for everyone, but hopefully there are a few other science junkies out there that will take this up!
NOW: Some BIG Notes::: "iSubscribe" does offer normal subscriptions (eg 13wks for $80) which can be accessed through Buckscoop to get 6.75% Cashback, plus they currently have a 10% discount voucher which Brad has posted here on Buckscoop. If you go direct through my link you won't be eligible for those things, as you won't be using iSubscribe...
However... I have done a few calculations & subscribing via my link will cost you $49.95 for the quarter, while iSubscribe, even after taking off 10% & 6.75% BS Cashback, will still cost you $67.14. In fact even the cheapest normal subscription rate (2 years) with all the discounts & cashback on iSubscribe works out more expensive per issue.
So, there you have it! Sorry it's so long, but I wanted to make sure everyone can see just what they're getting. But don't take my word for it - read the subscription page thoroughly so you know all the details of what you're signing up for
***NB: the quarterly subscription is ongoing, so you will be charged every 13 wks if you don't cancel***
PS - I am not affiliated with New Scientist in any way - I'm just punch-drunk with Dark Energy & Neutrinos
