Awesome price for a network 2TB. Staticice have got the next price at $575. Delivery or pick up stock levels at ok.
Used a NAA in an office I worked in and a downside is the proprietary software. Can mean a bit of messing around

HT also have the Acer version out for $499. Think I would prefer to go with the WD version myself :D
Delivery to WA is $17.52 (a rather precise value)

apparently the fans in these are pretty noisy, so you may want to hear one working if you are sensitive to machine racket...

You mean in the WD. I guess if they are designed to work in an office then you could position it somewhere not too close??

Fan noise drives me insane

yeah, in the WD... there's no reason why you couldn't/wouldn't use one at home...

i mentioned the noise as one review i read made a point of listing the noise in the cons, which i assume means that it is noisier than similar units...

i've used a similar RAID WD My Book before (not an NAS one though) and when the fans start cranking you really start to think the thing might take off and start chasing the dog around the house...

it would run hotter with the networking stuff in the box too...

if i just stuck an ethernet cable in the back would i be able to run this as a network storage for dvds/music etc if i had media players at the other end? (sorry no idea with networks!)

    generally speaking that will work...

however i personally wouldn't recommend one of these WD drives since i have read many comments about them being noisy and slow...

a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo, for example, would be a better option, IMO...
