Officeworks - Swann DVR-4 Business Surveillance Kit $165.88 (was $999)

This has been around for a while, and is probably end of life. Even so it's a fairly reasonable deal for a couple of cameras and a dvr able to record video - suitable for a home or small business.

The two included cameras (the dvr can support up to four) can record (colour during the day, b&w in low light) to the hard drive for 332 hours (normal quality - less in higher quality) - so assuming they're set to record only on detection of movement, then that will be quite a few days worth. Can also connect it to a pc via the usb port to copy video to the pc hard drive....

Things to watch for - do the cameras need their own power? If so is that supplied in the kit (I'd be surprised if it isn't). Check ebay or graysonline for extra bits. Loads on there.

Camera range is 'up to 8m' which means 4-5 really. No reason why the extra cameras could not be beefier. Good kit to start off with.

Single power supply to the dvr box, power to the cameras come from that. The kit comes with a five way splitter - the power supply plugs into that, and one plug then goes to the dvr, and the other four plug into the ends of the cables that then run to the cameras. These cables combine power & video in the one cable (well, really two joined together).

FYI - Just checked DSE and the cameras (including cable) product code - L6194 - cost $118 each. The better camera that can reach up to 15m - L6192 - is $129. Could always get the kit and (say) one of the better cameras to cover a larger area like the front of the house....

I'm assuming that if you drop another two cameras on it you effectively halve the hours that can be stored. Out of interest - how do you get recorded footage off it?

Answered my own question. You can drop it onto your computer. Not a bad deal ninkasi.

just tried adding to cart, for some reason it becomes 510... lol

Holds at the $165 for me scheps.

That deeplink into the officeworks site isnt working. Searching for swann dvr-4 gets the product.

strange, just tried it, still says 510.

I even tried changing the quantity and its all in multiples of $510 But yet the shopping cart (if you dont go into it by clicking check out) says 165.

Weird. Does the same for me now, but when I first posted it, it was fine. They also have the SWDDODC camera for $23.49 and it does the same thing ie adds into cart at discount rate, but when you check the actual cart it's at full price. I'd say it's a bug in their shopping cart system - if you're interested in getting one, then send 'em an email..... I already have something similar so probably won't bother....
