My gf got this phone yesterday and I have fallen with love with it. I have the SE W950i and this phone beats it by a mile. The WLAN is awesome and I was very impressed by using fring for calls.

Post deals on buckscoop while in bed without using mobile data charges.

The user interface is so easy to use and now I have to admit that Nokia is still Number 1 in the mobile arena.

What's fring ashley7070? or is that a typo?

Also - what would you say is the advantages/disadvantages compared to the n95? as that's the one I was looking at getting.

Fring is an instant messenger which combines skype, MSN and other SIP VOIP providers on your mobile. You do not need to be at your pc anymore to benefit from voip cheap rates. Use your wireless lan or WIFI hotspots.

Apart that the E65 is around $500 cheaper than the N95 and better battery life, it has most of the functionality the N95 has except the built in GPS. The N95 is a high end phone and unless you plan to use it for all its functions, I would settle for the E65 which is 5mm slimmer than the N95.

    N95

Camera 5 MP, 2592 x 1944 pixels, Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, video(VGA 30fps), flash; secondary CIF videocall camera

    - Dual slide design
    - Java MIDP 2.0
    - MP3/AAC/AAC+/eAAC+/WMA player
    - 3.5 mm audio output jack
    - TV out
    - Stereo FM Radio
    - Organiser
    - Office document viewer
    - T9
    - Push to talk
    - Voice dial/memo
    - Built-in handsfree

    E65

    - MP3/AAC/AAC+/eAAC+/WMA player
    - Push to talk
    - MP3/AAC/MPEG4 player
    - Stereo FM Radio
    - Organiser
    - Office document viewer

I like the idea of a better battery life. The N95 may have all the features but if if only works for an hour what would be the point. And the GPS is not really that important.
I am glad you asked what 'fring' is Jumpingjack, that was my next question :D

She got it as part of a three upgrade offer. I am really tempted to get one though as I am getting sick of my W950i. I am always near a wireless LAN, makes sense to get a WLAN phone.
  • ashley70702007/05/05 16:19:20
I checked this morning, she got navigation already pre-installed on it, I just need to get her a bluetooth gps now and she gets a E65 a la N95.
  • jumpingjack2007/05/05 21:00:55
Thanks for the help ashley7070. To be honest I wouldn't need the gps on the n95 however the lack of a good camera on the e65 is a little off putting. I'll go into a shop and see how much slimmer it feels in person though.
  • jumpingjack2007/05/07 00:40:59
Ok went and compared the n95 and e65 instore. The e65 is substantially smaller/slimmer in the hands and I liked the feel of it much more than the n95 which is a bit bulky. I am happy to give up gps - less happy about giving up screen size/resolution but most of all am a little concerned about the camera quality. I have a k750 now and the camera is very good so I don't want to downgrade in pic quality!

Correct me if I am wrong but the k750 has a 2MP camera, same with the E65. I cannot comment on the quality of the camera on K750 vs E65 though.

I guess it depends what you are going to use this 'all in one' mostly, a camera or a phone.
  • jumpingjack2007/05/07 20:21:36
Nope you're right ashley7070 - k750 is a 2mp also however it has a flash and autofocus while I think the e65 only has fixed focus and no flash.

I think it is a around 72 hours of normal use before I had to recharge, I did not go completely flat.
