Welcome to Buckscoop Warrenkole

Great news with the shipping code. It appears that they are getting a bit upset about some customers getting the book for 1c delivered but as I stated in the Chrissy book offer - they sent it to me to use :D

Well I've just checked my cc and although when I placed the order and used the free shipping code i received an email to state I would be charged the 1c only, I have been charged the $4.95 plus 1c for the book.

I've read the same thing happened with the Christmas Book using the Essential Babies link.

Now although I still think this is a great deal, I didn't realise they could just charge you more anyway,

thoughts?......
• nod2008/09/18 08:49:47
My thoughts are ... no they are not allowed to charge you more than was actually invoiced.
My understanding is that they must contact you to advise of the new changes to your bill and give you the option to cancel. You have not given them authorisation to charge your card at the higher amount

Personally I would be emailing the merchant.
While I believe that the book is indeed good value for $4.95 and I would be happy to pay that, the store must inform their customers regarding changes to their invoice. I did not just order the book when I placed an order and I did use the free shipping code as they actually sent it to me (or should I say it flashed up in a box during checkout). As yet my CC has not been charged but I do have a confirmation email. Will be interesting to see what happens
• thedreamer812008/09/18 09:56:14
yeah id email them too. i agree I think a number of people will be ringing up their credit card companies if companies start adding charges after the order has been accepted.:o
• blackmyst2008/09/18 10:00:03
Well I've just sent them an email regarding the situation, lets see what becomes of it... I used to work for NAB so know the whole procedure regarding credit card transactions being incorrectly charged, so I'm more than happy to go through my bank if they don't decide to refund my postage costs and open a dispute, luckily I kept all corresponding emails.

The other thing that gets me is that in the EB link that was provided in the xmas books that I read this morning, the company had the same problem, and ended up charging some post and others not, but put this deal out as well anyway??

It almost feels like a scam, that they put the 1c deal out there for people to jump at the opportunity, offered the free post code during checkout and the went back on the free post code, and charged anyway, it seems like that was their plan all along.

Anyone here had problems with ID before?? As this would be my first purchase, and not a happy start to my dealings with them...
• lilpretzel2008/09/18 15:57:35
For me it's simple.... No shop or person can charge you more than what your invoice states without getting your approval ;)

Yes it's still a great offer for $4.95 but it's not our fault we received a message box asking if we wanted Free Shipping.

When the error was found and they expired the Free Shipping code only than by rights the shipping fee must be paid for.

I'm yet to have my CC billed
• blackmyst2008/09/18 17:28:55
Well I just got home and received a reply regarding my order as below:

I apologize for upsetting you. Please allow me to explain. Your email confirmation is not an invoice. It is just confirming the details you entered into our website.

When we set out with this offer, we sent an email to a selected group of our customer base as a “thank you” and here is a special to get your Christmas shopping started. This email offer clearly stated that it was one book per customer plus P&H and could not be combined with any other offer. This was the only advertising we did for this special – via email.

Unfortunately there are many “special” websites out there that get hold of our specials along with the link for our special or sometimes they simply just provide the offer code for people to use. We unfortunately cannot control this type of behavior.

When customers, other than the ones that we sent the email to, use these links or offer codes through means other than from us, we do not want to “punish” these individuals as it is not their fault. Therefore as a gesture of good faith, we honor the special even though we did not send the special to them. Having said that we do restrict it to the terms of the email that was sent.

Our website does not have the capability of restricting people from quantities nor does it restrict people from going back and making multiple orders.

When a customer is leaving our website without making a purchase, we do entice them back by offering free S&H. However as we do indicate in our terms, it is one offer or the other not both. So when you went back to the offer code and changed it, you removed the 1 cent book offer and the book was being charge at full price. When we saw this in our system we made an assumption that you would prefer the 1 cent book plus P&H rather than the full price book with free P&H.

We have NOT charged your credit card as we only charge when the goods are dispatched. Your card was only authorized.

If you do not wish to continue with the order we can cancel it for you. Please advise of what you would like us to do.

Kind Regards,

Tracey Lang | Global Customer Service Manager

They are right when stating they haven't charged the credit card, its actually just "being held" the only way for it to drop off is if the company release the funds, the bank can't do anything while its in the authorization stage.

So expect a charge for the post people, they're obviously not going to honor the codes regardless

P.S does anyone have the actual email??? I would love to see where they state

"This email offer clearly stated that it was one book per customer plus P&H and could not be combined with any other offer"

And if that is the case, they need to fix up their systems so that it isn't possible to change the codes and allow them to go through. I find it strange that some are only getting charged 1c though.

And this is a copy of my "confirmation" which isn't a invoice :P

Total
Purchase price: A$ 0.01
Postage and Handling: A$ 4.95
Tax: A$ 0.00
Less Discount: -A$ 4.95
Total Inc.: A$ 0.01

and this is a load of bull

So when you went back to the offer code and changed it, you removed the 1 cent book offer and the book was being charge at full price. When we saw this in our system we made an assumption that you would prefer the 1 cent book plus P&H rather than the full price book with free P&H.

Thanks for the info Blackmyst.

I think the situation is a difficult one for the merchant. To sell the book for 1c total would mean a significant loss for them. So I completely understand that they wish to charge postage. Still a good deal :)
I think the issue is that there has not been the communication with the customers.
I also hope that they sort their shopping cart out so that it does not randomly offer people free shipping as this has the potential to cause a lot of headaches for them in the future if they don't

Personally, if they charge my creditcard the $4.95 I don't have a problem, so long as they email me first
• blackmyst2008/09/18 17:56:17
Yep I totally agree Nod, like i said previously I think the postage price and 1c is more than reasonable, its the way they went about it. Contacting customers informing of the change and asking if they would still like to keep the order should have been the process they took.

I am happy to pay $4.96 no problems there whatsoever. I have a suspicion that its a sneaky way to just charge people, especially knowing about this problem previously with the christmas book, and honoring some orders for 1c and free postage and not others.

Getting the shopping cart sorted out should be a priority and lay off deals like this where people are able to throw in the free postage code that they clearly state they offer.
