    Nice one Sandy :w00t:
Have not had one of these for a while .. great price for the laptop :)

    Gr8 Price...Its a shame the 5% coupon for systems under $1500 doesn't apply...I just tried :(

Ok I purchased one, my total came to $817.13.

I upgraded the CPU to the 2Ghz Celeron
I upgraded the memory to 2GB
I upgraded the hdd to 160GB 7200RPM (still cheaper than the included 80GB standard drive).
I upgraded the O/S to XP Pro (this cost the most!). I needed this as it will be used in business!
I upgraded the wireless card to 4965

    Thanks Mr Groper!

Error is still there, I just checked it again!

Kearnsy, glad to see you grabbed one :)

I think the Inspiron 1525 for $699 was a much better deal.
    Dual core, and 1440x900 screen!
    edit: given that it's a celeron, i don't think it's a misprint.

Its not a bad machine for the money. With the RAM and HDD upgrades in it its a good buy. I still argue that CPU speed is the most overblown metric on a computers capability.

I'm sure I have said this before but these new mobile celerons are not at all like the older desktop versions we remember.
I have a Vostro 1500 here with a 1.86Ghz celeron and you wouldnt know the difference between that and a C2D cpu in most real world applications.

actually if you upgrade it to the intel core 2 duo processor and up the memory to 2 gig, you've a very nice handy machine for a grand total of $771 after the code below is applied, Found a code that worked and you get another 5% off , the code is 3913182DC576

Forgot to add, i don't like the TFT with true life displays, they are glossy and the glare on them can be bad
  • sandgroper2008/05/02 17:22:23
Well done jinx, I did try that code and all the others I could lay my hands on and none would work on the original deal, I suspect the base price is just too low.

By adding upgrades you have tipped it into the zone where the coupon now works.

The truelife screens are a very personal choice, you either love em or hate them, I really like mine, but can see why the reflections could put some off having one.
  • sunrise35002008/05/02 17:23:48
nice find jinx! I'm still happy with the inspiron 1525 deal. 1440x900 screen more important to me.
although im sure quite a few people love to have a dual core vostro in the $700s!
  • admin2008/05/02 17:58:54
    :) - nice find Jinx.

I will second that Jinx. I have a very shiny screen on my HP and it drives me nuts sometimes.

Meh, there was a Lenovo Dual Core laptop for $598 a while back with the same specs.
  • Bargrin2008/05/04 20:39:19
if they fix up the error how much will this system then be, $52 more with a 80gb hard drive ?

    Officeworks has a Acer 5315 for $499

    2ghz CPU
    1 GB RAM
    Vista home basic
    but only 80GB HDD
