DVD player aspect is not region free :(

DVD is supposed to be region free - just the Blue-Ray is locked.

From the Austech Forum for the QPB-300B (which would most likley apply to this QPB-301B
    model - unconfirmed)

the player can be made region free for bluray by entering a code on the remote

    turn on
    open tray
    enter 97350 on remote
followed by region code you need such as 1 (for region A bluray)
    hit ok
close tray with disc in drive

The process has to be redone each time you power on/off (ie. doesnt remember the setting)

 The remote doesn't have an OK key. Tried the code and pressed ENTER, but this only raises the menu options.

    Next...!

Also, I discovered that contrary to the info on the box and in the manual, it won't play home-burnt DVD's.

I'm interested in this player as well, but not being able to play copies kills the appeal for me. Just wondering if you have made sure that you did it right. There are a lot of things you can do wrong, like burning too fast, having screen savers on that can stuff it up.

These things can be picky about the media quality as well as media type. Try another brand disc and/or try DVD "-" rather than "+"

I would note that some time ago I bought a Soniq DVD player/recorder - lots of features, great price. Would never do it again.... Of course I may have been unlucky and got a buggy one, but personal experience was incredibly noisy fan, no off button on remote, random freezing.... Before that I bought a random Chinese Nintaus brand DVD player with similar issuses. Now I'd put the money towards a name brand, and wait for a special...
