Harvey Norman - Acer eM250 Netbook - $198 (After Cashback)

These are $349 @ Coles at the minute, but for the first hour on Saturday after opening (or until sold out) you can queue up @ HN and fight off the crowds to grab one for $198 (after $39 acer cashback)

Acer Netbook 10.1 LED screen. Wireless connections. Integrated webcam. Multi-in-1 card reader. Weight 1.1kg. Microsoft Windows XP. 160GB hard drive disc 1GB RAM. Intel Atom processor 1.6GHz.

* The only thing is on the Acer cashback website - http://www.shopacer.com.au/ecprod/ACA/Projects/CashBack/LoadingAll?cb=true&entity=0030 - this netbook isn't listed but HN have advertised the cashback promo, so it's a good idea to ask when purchasing...or even bring a print out of the ad incase they try to worm their way out of it. It has been advertied on TV too so HN will most likely have to honour the advertised price.

A good deal but I bet you'd have trouble with the cashback. I am so sick of misleading claims from sellers lately!!! I ended up just buying a 7" mini laptop on ebay from HK for $80 AUD.

Good buy! For those of you out there also considering this, you do need to be careful eg shipping costs can be very high. Also keep in mind that they might be very low powered and/or run Windows CE - fine if all you want is to browse the web and do email but don't expect to be able to load up the latest version of Office or be able to install any "normal" Windows app you may have/want to use. Not saying don't get one of these, as they are quite usable devices, but just go into it with eyes open.....

As an aside, when I looked at this, there had been 666 views.... probably a coincidence.... ;-)

    Cheers

Thanks... yep the one I got was $80 delivered (free shipping). It only runs windows CE but all i need it for is basic email and browsing while travelling... it will be my travel laptop :) in a way better than the acer deal as long as it holds out for 6 months it will have served its purpose... the one i got weighs 0.65kg and the acer one 1.1kg and every bit of extra weight counts.
