Hailo HD-STB8000 HD Set Top Box DTV Special + Cable of Choice $74.95 @ CrazyStu

this special is linked to from the DTV forums, but it doesn't look like you actually have to be a DTV forum member to get the special (god knows how they'd verify that anyway)... in any case you could simply register on the forum if you have any problems...

damn good deal for a decent cheap HD set top box, with your choice of 1m HDMI or HDMI-DVI cable...

crazystu.com.au seems to be a reputable store (my goddess they even have pictures of real staff on their website), and Stu himself participates in the DTV forums (although he doesn't seem so crazy to me)...

oh, and crazystu are currently guaranteeing xmas delivery for orders placed before the 19th, or your money back...

Our personal buckscoop experience of crazystu reps - they need to take lessons in how to win friends and influence people and they looooove spam.

I personally would not shop there.

fair enough, can you point me at some threads? (PM is fine)

i was going on the feedback i have seen in the DTV forums, mostly happy customers...

I 'personally' - these opinions are all my own. I haven't had a search around for crazystu customer service for a while so cant point you to anything. It may be fine - I have no idea on it.

Our experience was that someone from crazystu spammed the forum several times. When contacted their only response was to literally tell us to go do something devious in a dark room. They then went and created another user and tried spamming several more times. Its a bit like me walking into your shop and telling you to go bounce on your head when you politely ask me not to pee on the clothes rack.

They are one of the few merchants that we have on the Buckscoop blacklist. You need to do something special to get on that one.

I like that!! Almost tempting to order last minute just to see if they can pull it off.

fair enough, sounds like they've burned their bridges with you...

apart from being on the verge to order something from them, i don't have much to go on, apart from forum feedback (which tends to be pretty damning when a store is really bad)...

however, i have been doing a fair amount of research into set top boxes of late, and from what i've read 'they' at least have some idea about the products they sell, and actually support them to some degree, unlike a lot of online tech stores... and generally their prices are decent, and i've seen mostly good reports on their delivery times...

sometimes trying to find a really good online tech store is like trying to find a good mechanic to work on your car... a bit of research, a few rumours, and a lot of luck...

oh, and since they come up in the merchant search when submitting a deal, what does it mean for them to be on the "Buckscoop blacklist"?

For us there were two reasons that we decided to not support Crazystu as a merchant:

    1. They repeatedly spammed the forum.
We are pretty clear about this and there was warnings for merchants when they sign up to the site and even when they go to create a deal that we don't allow spam.
We reckon there is enough of it out in the world and we are not into merchants using the site as their own private billboard. Which is also part of the reason we don't use advertising on the site.
    2. The other reason was that the response we received to our PM's regarding spam was rude and unwarranted. A courteous respectful response was all that was needed. After all they were the ones spamming our site

The 'blacklist' means that all references to that merchant will be removed from the site

ok, that's all fine and dandy... but how do i tell who is on the blacklist? is there a page i can look at somewhere?

and surely if a merchant is banned then the system should tell me when i search for them when posting a deal?

In an ideal world yes, but we dont have an autolist autocensor set up and there's no immutable list of merchants.

We've left this conversation and post open because although they were put on a blacklist, if the products are good value, the customer service great and the delivery superb then we're not going to censor them on the site as this place is for joe public not us. Being informed is good for the consumer and they can make up their own minds.

ok, thanks for clearing that up...

just getting my bearings around here...

    anytime...... :)
  • jackyblue2008/12/19 10:32:24
Soooo ... has anyone bought something from them to be able to tell us if they've had a good hard look at themselvs, cleaned up their act and are now in the running for retailer of the year?
