Shipping often makes the difference - especially to Perth or the more remote spots.

    Thanks sandgroper.

Nice price - that shipping makes it a bargain. Don't know wht I'd do without my laser printer!!

the brother laser printer is $129. so do you guys think this fuji one is worth it or the brother is better?
  • nod2007/04/26 17:49:01
To be honest Twingurl88 I am not 100% sure. Brother is a more recognisable name in printing in my mind. But Fuji has been around for years. I would suggest that they are comparable and hence, I would always go with the cheaper ;)
What is the print resolution on the brother?
  • jayne2007/04/26 18:09:55
But this is a fuji-xerox and xerox is a pretty big name as well...
  • twingurl882007/04/26 18:14:14
it looks like the print resolution for the brother laser is also the same as fuji's. also does anyone know how laser printers work, like since it uses a toner, do we have to buy the whole toner when the ink runs out or is it like you can buy refills.
    thanks

I would check out the cost of running any laser before purchase, the toner carts are individual, so for color printers you have up to 4. these can be refilled (like with inkjets) or replaced with originals. Trouble is the lasers are now getting to the price where buying a replacement printer is almost cost effective over fitting toners, just like with inkjets!

Toner replacement for this offer is $70 so as you see its almost the cost of the printer!

Thanks for that Tikem. I guess the best way to go is to make sure that you can refill the cartridges
  • twingurl882007/04/26 19:24:06
it says in the specs that toner=1500 pages. does this mean we can print an average black ink page for 1500 times before the toner needs replacing ink?
    thanks
  • sandgroper2007/04/26 19:25:41
Careful here as the unit ships with a smaller than usual toner, you get an average of 2500 pages from the "normal" toner.

Got the calc out and the first 1500 printed pages at 5% black use will cost 6.6 cents a sheet inc the cost of the printer, then if you buy a replacement toner its down to 3 cents a sheet. (paper not included)

Toner replacement costs have always been the bane of laser printers. There was a generic refill catridge company listed on here for a while - I'll see if I can dig it up - might be able to get a comparison on the cost of the toner.
  • admin2007/04/27 09:52:28
nope - only ones I can find are the genuine catridges @ $77. I havent looked super hard though so it doesnt mean cheaper generics arent available.

They are expensive, but when you think how long that lasts you and you compare it to the price per page of inkjets, it's really not all that bad. Just a bigger initial outlay for better quality printouts, and cheaper running costs.

I had a look around and from some forums I got this info, toner is $45 on ebay or I found it for $69.95 for original.
It seems that if you use the supplied (smaller) toner in saver mode it will give around 2800 pages and when you fit a standard replacement toner you get 2500 pages in normal mode and near 4000 in toner saver mode.
Looking like a bargain to me ;-)
