DSE 10 day clearance: 15% off computers, 15% off selected LCD's, 50% off certain games

Posted By: nod, posted 2008/10/20 11:44
Looks like DSE are trying to compete with JB Hifi's 10% off. Most of DSE prices are pretty good so to take 15% off is a nice savings. They do of course have exclusions: Apple, XC 4266, XC 4472, XC 4473, XC 4270.

**PLUS free laptop bag with every comp purchase

The LCD offer is only on selected stock - no listing sorry.

You can find a full list of the games on sale at Ecogamer - they have compiled a great list

$355 is majorly cheap for a laptop! :w00t:

Just your luck you're looking for a laptop. winni! :D
Will go and have a look at the specs now!

Winniblue - that one khaz0r has referred to is a damn good buy at that price and has the basics your asking for - its here btw (http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/en/product/XC4776)

It has a trial version of MS Office 2007 Home and Student installed - which is the cheapest version you can get for home use. Its a trial so you'll just need to activate it but that can be done online and is simple. Home and Office doesnt include MS Exchange but has powerpoint, excel, word etc.

Be aware that if you pick that machine up, its a basic budget computer. It'll work fine for simple stuff like document editing, browsing etc but dont expect that you'll be able to watch movies, have awesome off power battery life, be lightweight etc etc. Component wise, its warrantied so if it dies - get it mended.
  • winniblu2008/10/20 14:43:30
hmmmmmmm so how much would I need to spend to be able to get one with a burner and the ability to watch movies??

    am I being to tight??
  • queenshrew2008/10/20 14:47:25
Just wondering if the 15% has already been applied to all laptops on the website?
It looks like it has, as everything has a weird looking price tag?
  • stilted2008/10/20 14:54:26
plus mention the DSE website offer of free 1 gig bonus memory - not bad for the price !

I think the price has been reduced by 15% so doubtful the $350 price will be valid (after cash back)

$449 is likely the final price (still cheap)
  • queenshrew2008/10/20 15:08:41

Yeah, that's what I thought too after browsing the website..
It's still a decent price though, even though not as amazing as it could have been if it was 15% off the website listed price! :D

Thanks. Goldfish here forgot to add that to the op :o
  • queenshrew2008/10/20 15:42:40
You know..hehe if you're willing to spend that much..
Maybe you can get the same one as we did :D

    Acer Aspire Gemstone 5920G-5A2G25Bn

It has 2 video cards, one dedicated - which is the way to go if you want good video graphics when watching movies etc.

All I've been doing is watching movies and TV on it cos hubby's at work and he leaves it in the study... It's so convenient :D

The graphics are really good! It also has blu ray (the way of the future :innocent:) plus it's also a DVD Supermulti (plays and burns dvds).

Although I found the sound to be BLEH.. so we've hooked it up to mini speakers, and now it works perfectly!

The processor is not amazing, but it's intel duo core, and it suits its purpose..as we don't use it for multitasking (We have PCs).

It is selling for $1188 (+$199 cashback) on the DS website with the 15% off. Not bad, considering other places are still selling it for $1200+

If you want to get an Acer, you need to hurry. Most of Acer cashback ends 31 Oct 2008..unless of course they extend it...!

I just added the spec details for you Winniblu.

I am no computer expert but I would go for the Acer GEMSTONE AS6920-603G32Mn Notebook. Had a HP that used to do a lot of odd things and have been told by other HP users it is not unusual. Acer are usually good value for money and there is not a lot of difference in spec b/w the hp and this Acer
  • queenshrew2008/10/20 15:53:29
I don't know how good HP laptops are, as I've never owned one. So I can't tell you.

Although I must say they built printers to last!
My Laserjet 4L is still going strong after 14 years!!!

I even moved it from Brisbane to Melbourne..and it's still going! I love it xoxoxoxo!

That's so much easier to read after you added all the specs lol!

Maybe you can add the price too as I'm too lazy to look it up.. :o

I must say I have heard not very nice stuff about HP laptops either.
Hubby wasn't keen on Acer initially, but at least he thought it was good enough to buy due to the budget price tag. He told me he won't touch a HP with a 10 foot pole - not even with similar features and price tag :o

I personally don't like acer or their cashbacks.

If you get an acer cashback deal - make sure you photocopy everything before sending it. A quick google will tell you why!!
  • khaz0r2008/10/20 19:06:15
if you wanted to spend that much... after reading some of your responses winniblu it seems that your desire for a notebook is for entertainment and for some work.

I think that the Dell™ Studio 15 would be perfect for your needs. For a starting price of $1,149 it has pretty much the same specs as the Acer, although with Dell you will be safer as you get their tech support. Also, I think that Dell are way more reputable and create better notebooks in general.

Also adding to what RodH said, many people have had comlpaints with companies doing cashback offers. The one that stands out of all complaints are from Acer. It seems that majority of cashback difficulties happen with acer be be aware that you may not get your promised cash back.

Hopefully Dell will have some special promotion for the Dell™ Studio 15 soon, it will be a better bargain.

    My 2cents worth.

Am in the market for a laptop and got excited when I saw this late last week. However, even with 15% off I found the very same Toshiba laptop for $150 less at Officeworks. And normal Officeworks price, not discounted. Found it for $250 less at Good Guys DFO Essendon although sold out. Even found it for less at JB Hifi. Shop around.
