A couple of suggestions: Don't bother upgrading the memory beyond the 3Gb supplied as XP, at least, can't make use of much more than 3Gb. Also don't bother with speaker upgrade as the Viewsonic has basic speakers built-in

you may want to upgrade to 4GB as 3GB is 2X1GB and 2x512 MB and is using all the memory slots. no upgrade possible afterwards without one 512Mb having to be removed...nevertheless, looks like a pretty good deal

As the OP already suggested, no point in upgrading the ram further as neither XP or Vista 32 bit os can see or use more than a max of 3.5Gig of ram.
Vista 64bit os can use more but dell dont offer it as it has some issues with compatability with other software.

Thanks Baz. Basically you get the box for $746 assuming you take the cost of the 22 monitor as $300. Not bad for the spec on the machine - is the Vista / XP bundled or extra?

but what if you want to upgrade later to some other software that is compatible and needs more RAM? i always like to keep my option open...
