Dell UltraSharp 2209WA 22-inch Flat Panel Monitor, $369 @ Dell

as mentioned in some other long lost thread about some other monitor, LCD monitors with IPS panels are far superior, and thus generally more expensive than their garden-variety TN brethren...

mostly as a result of its E-IPS panel, this Dell monitor has got very good reviews, with above average colour fidelity and viewing angles... it also has a height, tilt, swivel and pivot adjustable stand, and 4 USB ports... 3 years premium panel warranty too...

[please see the comments for clarification about the E-IPS panel]

E-IPS - In Panel Switching
1680 X 1050 at 60 Hz
Contrast ratio 1000:1 (typical)
Dynamic Contrast Ratio 3000:1 (typical)
Video Graphics Array (VGA)
DVI-D (Digital)
4 USB ports
Height-adjustable stand, tilt, swivel, pivot
3-Year Advanced Exchange Service and Premium Panel Guarantee

hot vote from me. I work off a widescreen 22" Dell and find them pretty good - would love it to be an ultrasharp.

Cnet's "This is the best 22-inch monitor we've seen." really gave it away. Does anyone seriously believe a $369 monitor to be the "best"?

The normally very very expensive IPS panels are of the S-IPS and H-IPS type. This Dell uses an E-IPS panel. Independent reviewers have looked inside the monitor and confirmed it's a lower cost version of IPS, in fact some sort of a hybrid of TN and IPS.

It's a good value monitor, better than a regular TN. Just don't get misled by Dell.

yeah, the best-we've-seen comment is silly (unless the reviewer hasn't actually seen any really good monitors before)...

unfortunately finding in-depth reviews and comparisons of new monitors can be very frustrating...

here's another review on the Dell:

the review page also has more information about other pros and cons of IPS and TN panels...

oh, and btw, Digital Versus is one of the better review sites...

it's probably yet another Dell bait and switch the price deal :(
