This is really just a heads up to let members know what has dropped in price.

The 17" may be of interest at $199 but I would buy the 24" with coupon rather than spend $469 on a 20"

Dell 17" UltraSharp (1708FP) Flat Panel LCD Monitor (Analog & DVI)
R141708UAU (Sml Bus) $199.00 was $269
3 Years Premium Panel Warranty, Advance Exchange (Next Business Day)

Dell 20 " UltraSharp (2007FP) Flat Panel LCD Monitor (Analog & DVI)
R142007UAU (Sml Bus) $469.00 was $519
3 Years Premium Panel Warranty, Advance Exchange (Next Business Day)
Expiry date:2008/12/25

Don't know if this is the right place to be posting this but guess I'll find out. A friend of mine has just recieved his brand new Dell laptop, took it out of the box, turned it on ... it doesn't work. He's had a local tech guy look at it ... they don't know what's wrong. He spent 40 min on the phone this morning to finally have Dell tell him that someone will be out to look at it on Mon ... prob is that this town doesn't have a Dell rep or anyone that deals with Dell equip & we're miles away from the closest city. So they must have been talking out of their #*se. He's also leaving on Monday and will be out of phone range for the next two weeks so he's almost given up on it and figures he's just blown $1000 - which is crazy.
I've told him he should just send the whole thing straight back and tell them to sort it out.
If anyone has had experience with Dell and can suggest what he should do ... it would be much appreciated.

He needs to send it back. Not a lot of other options really.
What is is warranty with the laptop?
He needs to get back on the phone and explain his situation a bit better and tell them he is sending it back

    No worries with Dell.

As it's new.. they'll either replace it, or send someone out to pick it up and repair then courier back to him at their cost.

Happened to my sister's dell pc.
We received it and after unpacking, plugged it in and it BLEW! Like did a zap and short circuit!! (This was about 4 years back)

She called up and within a couple of days a guy was around to pick it up..it was back with her within the week..and worked fine for the past 4 years :D

:) - I take it that its an onsite warranty.

He'd probably be better off getting the first port of call on the phone to pass him over to someone who can grasp the concept of 'remote' and arrange for it to be returned to base.

Thanks guys. He's going to try Dell again in the morning - this time armed with a bit more information & confidence that they can't just fob him off.
