2010-03-30Great purchase if you wanted a basic point and shoot camera. I saw this while looking through the Target catalogue. This model is over $120 elsewhere. I have seen it on OO.com.au fro $139. I don't know a lot about the camera as I don't have one but when I had a look around at the price I thought I would post.

Yakuza 3 will feature full English subtitling, while retaining the outstanding voice acting from the original Japanese version of the game to create an authentic and immersive experience. The transition to the PlayStation 3 has allowed SEGA of Japans CS1 team to add an unprecedented level of environmental detail and realism to the game a hallmark of the series that fans have come to expect. In this action-adventure sequel, players will take on the role of Kiryu Kazuma to explore rich and realistic environments, take part in a multitude of unique mini-games and experience the deepest combat experience in the series yet. In addition to the familiar Tokyo haunts from the first two games, fans will also discover a completely new setting on the tropical island of Okinawa where, accompanied by his adoptive daughter Haruka, Kazuma manages an orphanage. However, he is allowed no respite in this idyllic retreat and before long he is once again forced to deal with his sordid past.

BigW - 81cm (32") AWA LCD TV $396
ntowill on 2010-03-09 07:56:24
2010-03-11
2010-03-24Pretty darn cheap price for a 81cm LCD TV. Even though it's not a brand like Sony, AWA to me are better than the cheap Conia, etc. brands, plus it has 3 HDMI inputs. The specs are:
Built-in HD tuner
Resolution 1366 x 768
Contrast ratio 1500:1
Response time 6.5ms
Brightness 500cd/m2
Viewing angle 176 degrees
HDMI x 3

Big Brown Box - Free Bush Digital Radio [with morphy richards or Dyson purchase]
ninkasi on 2010-03-08 11:53:14Receive a free Bush BR10DAB DAB+ Radio with FM Tuner valued at $110rrp (they sell it for $99) with every Dyson or morphy richards purchase. Your Free Digital Radio will be sent with your delivery automatically, not via redemption. For a limited time only or while stock lasts limit one per customer, per order.
A basic Digital radio, white only and with a fairly weak speaker, but good for - say - the kitchen. Being digital, there is no interference/hiss/etc as well. If you're looking at getting, say, a toaster or iron then - as all prices are generally below rrp and include shipping, this is a pretty reasonable freebie. For example, you can get a four slot toaster for $119 delivered (rrp $129) and with the radio you're getting rrp$239 worth of stuff for $119 delivered.
Personally, we love our Dyson hand held vac (http://www.bigbrownbox.com.au/dyson-dc30). Not cheap, but it's the best hand held vac I have ever seen or used - strong suction, easy to empty..... battery doesn't hold the charge like it used to (nearly two years old now) but you can get replacement batteries so I might do that rather than get another....
Blu-ray Player and Quickflix voucher (Valued at $418.70) with Panasonic Full HD Plasma TVs
ninkasi on 2010-03-06 23:54:28
2010-02-13
2010-03-31When you buy any Panasonic VIErA Full HD Plasma TV you get to claim a BONUS Blu-ray Player and 6 months Quickflix® Blu-ray and DVD rentals voucher valued at $418.70 RRP. Note this offer is both time AND quantity limited.
Over a year ago I bought a 50inch Panasonic plasma and got a "free" Wii with the deal. We have been super happy with the set - the quality of the image is right up there.
Anyhow, if you're in the market for a new tv I'd certainly recommend having a look at the Panasonics. As an example, Myer currently have a special with the THP50G10 (50"/127cm. Full HD 600Hz subfield drive. 1920 x 1080 resolution. 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio) for $1999 - RRP is $2,699. If you are a Myer One member (it's free) you will also get 3998 Myer one shopping credits which translates to about $40 of vouchers. The 42inch version is also available at Myer for $1499.
I suspect that prices are currently pretty good due to a number of factors including exchange rate, Olympics have finished, and people hearing about 3D coming out and hesitating from buying.
Samsung LA52B750 52" HD LCD TV $2799 from Clef Hi Fi in Melb
Donkey on 2010-03-06 08:30:54This is a good price and the tellie is a reasonably recent and decent quality release. I dont think they actually sell online so if you want it you'll need to call them. A good price late last year on this was $3800 and your still looking at around that price to pick it up elsewhere.
Deal Extreme - Twenty CR2016 lithium batteries for less than $0.17 each, shipped.
ninkasi on 2010-03-05 13:43:12It's been a while since anyone has mentioned one of my favourite online shops - dealextreme. Everything is in $USD, but the price *includes* shipping. The quality can vary a little - there's a fair bit of replica stuff for sale (eg "iFones"), but most things are at the level of quality of stuff you'd fine at, say, the Reject Shop. Sometimes really good, some things rubbish, but usually perfectly fine.
If you see something that is branded with a known name, probably best to assume that it's either a fake or it's a second in some way and then decide if you want to buy it. I'd also avoid things that might hurt if they fail eg I wouldn't buy a memory card from them as I'd hate to lose photos if the card turned out to be faulty.
Anyhow, as an example I recently bought twenty CR2016 batteries for USD$2.98 (AUD$3.31). So under AUD$0.17 per battery. These are used in things like watches, torches, calculators, remote controls (car, credit card size devices) and cost $4.19 for one battery at Dick Smith. So 20 batteries delivered to my home for less than the price of one that I'd have to find time to go into a bricks & mortar store (or pay even more to have it shipped).
Other recent purchase have been:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.751 20*CR2032 batteries for USD$3.62. These are similar to the 2016 but about twice as thick and used in calculators, remotes (garage, tv, etc), toys, lights - all sorts of things and cost $4.19 for one battery @ dse. So $USD0.18 per battery or just under AUD$0.20 per battery at current exchange rates.
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.60 $4.65 50*AG13 LR44. These are used in toys, night lights, torches, remotes, talking books - if you have young kids, you probably go through a lot of these and they cost $4.19 for a twin pack @ dse. Again, around twenty batteries for the price of one.
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.24512 $2.99 USB to Serial Port adapter. Handy for the kit if you are a computer geek and/or have any older electronic kit (eg a weather station) that requires a serial interface and your computer only has USB ports. They cost $79.94 @ dse.
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4256 $4.92 480p Component AV cable for Wii. If you have a Wii and have used the included cable to hook it up to the tv, if your tv supports component in then get one of these as you can improve the visual quality of games. It's not a huge difference and can vary depending on the game (the Wii is not an xbox 360 or PS3] but it is noticeable. A similar cable costs $49.76 at dse.
Yes you can get some of these things cheaper at places other than dse - I've just used that as an example. And yes the DX prices I've quoted are $USD and the dse prices are $AUD but I would note that in general you would be hard pressed to get cheaper (or even as cheap) for most of these, plus also the convenience of having the stuff shipped to your door is hard to beat. Shipping can take a while, in particular if they hold up shipping waiting for stock to arrive, but other than that I've been very happy with virtually everything I've got from them. Some people on the DX forums have complained about some failed batteries, but all the ones I've got from them have been well wrapped and worked just fine.
The savings on the batteries alone have easily paid for any other stuff I may have bought from dx, but I have a personal limit of generally not buying anything that costs more than $10 as I figure it's the cost of a magazine or two that I'd read and throw away.... so what the hey.
To that end though, there are lots of weird and wonderful things on the site - frankly I could spend hours going through it. Some stuff makes for wonderful cheap presents, or simply impulse buys for yourself. Try to pass up the solar cockroach (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.32431) or locust (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.30658) or how about a "drinky bird" (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.29233)?
