Buy a Dell 24"HC Ultrasharp WS TFT and get a Vostro 1000 notebook for $353 or less this week

OK now I got your attention ;-)
This is how it works, Dell have the 24" HC Ultrasharp Widescreen LCD Monitor with 3yrs warranty on offer this week at $999 so thats our guide price.

Click though to dell and enter ecode Q540904V-web into the ecode finder boxes, configure how you like but I used XP Home for a $132 discount, then added the 6 cell battery as we need the price up slightly for this to work.
Now add the 24" HC Ultrasharp Widescreen LCD Monitor by selecting it from the list within the laptop configuration screen.
Go through to checkout and add coupon code 39131CC55486 for 10% discount.
You should now have a price of $1352.34 for both the 24"TFT and a Vostro 1000 Notebook.

Here is the notebook spec, not bad for $353 eh! And remember you get Bucky cashback off the final price too!!

:) - awesome find sandy. Thats a steamer of a price.
  • sandgroper2007/09/21 18:17:44
You can work the same sort of deal out for a Vostro 1000 notebook and 27" Dell Ultrasharp Widescreen LCD with FULL HD 1080P. But as the 27" has just gone back up today to $1399 lowest price with no coupon available now to drop it to $1200 the best I can get so far is $1858 with the Vostro 1000 notebook.
This still means your getting the notebook for $459 over todays price for the 27" TFT so if you were going to buy one anyway its a big bargain, but not as good as the 24" one.

Wow sandman, love these deals! Shame I'm poor and can't get another 24" (yet)!

sandy - whats the expected battery life on a 6 cell ?

Its always hard to get good figures for this Admin as it obviously depends on how you use it. Dell claim up to 8hrs for the 9cell and others are claiming 5hrs for the 6cell with the 4 cell coming in at 3hrs.
Personally the 9 cell gives me around 5hrs of heavy use on my Dells.

Everyones mileage will vary as its dependent on so many variables.

If you meant expected life before replacement then Dell say around 350 recharges. They of course also suggest you buy a spare 2nd battery so you dont get caught out.
  • admin2007/09/23 14:34:35
I get about 2.5 - 3 hours off the '68 watt' lithium polymer' I have in my machine. Bit of a far cry from the grandiose claim of 5.75 hours apple make.

Does anyone know if this would be suitable for gaming? Not Bioshock or anything too insane, but things like Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike Source, etc?
  • admin2007/09/26 17:26:06
I'm pretty sure jayne uses hers for gaming and I've watched a friend playing doom on one as well.
  • TheGoodDr2007/09/26 17:35:08
The only issue I can see is it doesn't look like it has any graphics card, even onboard - argh, I need to check with someone who has one, any chance I can contact one of those people?
  • admin2007/09/26 17:50:38
for sure - just send sandy or jayne a PM - they're around pretty much every day. Otherwise if I catch them around I'll point them in here to answer your question.

If you mean the laptop, then I think the answer to that might be a "no", if it has no graphics card... I reckon you'd have to pay quite a bit more to get a gaming laptop.

Although I was trying to check it on Dell's site and I cannot find it using the ecode? Can anyone else?
  • admin2007/09/26 18:01:16
:D - I'd assumed you were talking about the 24" monitor TheGoodDr - my stupid mistake.
  • nod2007/09/26 18:01:40
I reckon Sandy is the man to talk to.

The Vostro 1000 is a basic laptop and not really suited to game playing other than the non graphic intense sort.
Something like Far Cry (3yrs old) would run on it but stutter unless you cut most of the eye candy right out.
Gaming laptops really are a lot more money than this one as with greater graphics comes a price tag. Best stick with desktops for gaming unless you just have to have a laptop then its dig deep into the wallet.
  • jayne2007/09/26 23:09:01
And half life 2 is full of eye candy ^^^
  • sandgroper2007/09/27 00:04:12
In the same screen size this would be a notebook that could run many of todays games resonably well due to its dedicated fast graphics card and memory.

    Dell Vostro 1500 Notebook
    Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5470 1.6GHz, 2MB Cache, 800 MHz FSB
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium - with AERO experience
    2GB (2 X 1024MB) 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
    120GB SATA Hard Drive
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 256MB GDDR2 dedicated graphic memory
15.4" Widescreen WXGA (1280x800) TFT Display
Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Combination Drive with dual layer write capabilities
9-cell 85Whr Lithium Ion Primary Battery
1 Yr Value Night & Weekend Onsite Service (M-F:0800-2100, Sat-Sun:0900-1700)

I have configured it with Vista Premium and upgraded the battery to 9 cell as gaming on the move is power hungry. Its free delivery too.

Click though to Dell from the first post and enter ecode Q540911V-web into the ecode finder boxes to get to the deal, once you have configured it how you want it go to checkout and enter coupon code 39131CC55486 for a 10% discount.
Dont forget there is bucky cashback on the deal too.

My config above came to $1534.50 and after discount was $1381.05 delivered with bucky cashback to come off that.

As you can see the price for this laptop on its own is the same as buying the 24" monitor AND a Vostro 1000. Thats the price you have to pay for gaming on a notebook.

Hope thats of help to you TheGooddDr
  • admin2007/09/27 00:17:37
You could always buy the vostro 1000 and the monitor - keep the monitor - flog the vostro - and buy the better spec laptop - and you'd probably be a little ahead of where you'd otherwise be.
