Nothing like taking Microsofts profit margin out of the equation to make a product more affordable

Interesting gadget. How well does linux run on 512k ?

I quite like the idea of the solid state drives that are being used these days. Had a look at an apple air a few weeks ago. I reckon there's a fast developing market in these ultra portable machines that you use as a secondary one to your home setup.

This is EXCELLENT! I paid $2500 for a 2kg Asus 2 years ago with no features, was basically paying for the small weight.... wish I could justify upgrading now!

:) - you'd want to make sure everything that you needed to use had a linux port if you did.

This bit of kit will run widows xp if you wish.
Lots of sites giving info now on how to modify it, including changing the default screen res, "overclocking" etc.

How much we forget so quickly...:)

IBM T22 P111 900mgz, came with just 256meg of ram

    IBM T40 came with P4 1.4Ghz and just 512meg

    Just 2 quick examples.

Larger screen models are being released.

ASUS tells us the screen is 1024 x 600, and it looks to be almost the exact same pixel density as the 7-inch version.
    Being released later this year.

Due to the buzz and sales figures for the EEE several other companies world wide have jumped on the bandwagon and are or have already released comparable products

I guess the solid state drive would make up for a bit of the swapping time.

there's been quite a few of these ultra portables around for a while now. I'd been reading about the difficulties some had had with actually using them. The pricing from Acer is certainly going to blow the macbook air out of the water if the get even more traction in the market.

I see EYO are selling the same unit at $486.
