Got one from Aldi-Ringwood - so now into 60--day evaluation.. either keep or return !

So far, looking good.. Both analog and digital tuners (but only SD), with HDMI-1080p output . . . Time shifting all good, but need to do add some favorites re all extra channels found but NBG (eg. HD). Can record to HDD, DVD or USB (fat32) - but more familiarisation needed. . . Plays DVDs OK, although still to check if Region Free . . . No LAN connectivity, outweighed by preferred DVD R/W functionality.

Comments from others welcomed - to help my keep/return decision .....

    daveb.
(PS. re HD, I have that natively on LCD TV, or can record using PS3-PlayTV or the PC, so not a key factor ).

    Hi daveb,

I purchased one recently. I am impressed with its features, however how do you record from the HDD to DVD? On page 33 of the manual, it states "To keep recordings which are on HDD you may transfer to DVD". How?

Other than recording in MPEG4 format then copying to USB then to a PC etc., I cannot find how this can be done. On page 48, it states "You may copy files from the USB to either HDD or DVD", however it does not give me the option of copying from USB to DVD (DVD does not display as a destination option), despite having a recognised, correctly formatted unfinalised DVD in the drive. Besides that, not all content would necessarily be recorded in MPEG4 format, and I also note that the Timeshift function does not work when recording in MPEG4 format. Your thoughts and experience would be appreciated.

Regarding the region code, on page 59 it states that the region code is printed on the rear of the unit. I haven't checked this. What have you found regarding this? Although this is not a concern of mine, however the above is.

    Thanks,

    Graemek.

    Readers,

For your benefit, the major part of this dialog with Graeme, myself and others has been transferred to Whirlpool - Aldi Vivid DVD Recorder - Help - DVD/Blu-ray - Home Theatre - Whirlpool Forums

Current summary - looks like cannot transfer from HDD to DVD. Many people dissappointed with product . . . and Returning units !
