Acer Aspire 5920G 5A2G25Bn Gemstone Notebook $999.95+Delivery (+Bucky +$199 Acer cashback)!!!

I thought this was a good price. Despite the processor being slower than we would have like, and it being HEAVY and not having a burner, its specs are pretty decent. It comes with built in tv tuner and remote, as well as a blu ray player. Cheapest price I can find elsewhere was around $1200. Postage was $12.70 to Vic plus you can use your $5 voucher if you have one stashed away (or beg nod/lilpretz for one hehe). This month's Buckscoop cashback rate of 7.2% was the clincher for me!

We wanted a Dell but couldn't be stuffed waiting for a good price to come up.. this one - the price is soo right!

Yeah I saw this one too, and theres a review on this one at http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4194

For the price it would be a pretty good gaming laptop with dx10 capabilities.

Major issues would be the not so good screen and the heat levels from both the CPU and the Graphics Card.
• queenshrew2008/09/30 11:23:37
Thanks for the review link! It was a good read..

Can't wait for ours to arrive...!

The Dell version (with better cpu & burner) we wanted was in the $2200+ price bracket (after all current discounts and cashback)..

This one works out to $950.00 including delivery after cashback from Buckscoop :D
• stilted2008/09/30 13:24:38
good price - some posts on other forums have questioned Acer quality. But good specs if your looking for a multimedia all in one laptop.

Nice all in one unit - bluray + digital TV + DX10 card- shame the CPU isnt a little better. But for the price is still excellent especially compared to whats on the market.

KILLER CASHBACK!!! $199 make the price (unless

makes the final price around $800

Hi stilted,

I am not sure about the cashback.
I have heard horror stories about Acer cashback.

ETA: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/908143.html This makes for interesting reading in regards to Acer's cashback :p
• lilpretzel2008/09/30 14:03:56
Nice Buckscoop cashback queenshrew :w00t:

I had no problems with my Acer cashback on a monitor but it did takes 3 months.

:D
• bt342008/09/30 14:46:37
I didn't have any problems with my Acer cashback, admittedly this was way back in 2006.
Just make sure you follow the T&C and post your claim using Express or Registered Post.
• nod2008/09/30 16:21:39
I think you need to expect it to take 2-3 months. People usually receive it but it just takes a while
Nice buy Queenie :)
• bigal2008/09/30 17:04:08
also send your claim in by registered post
• nod2008/09/30 18:30:34
just added the Acer cashback to the title Queenshrew :)
• queenshrew2008/09/30 22:50:07
Well, today's the last day for the 7.2% Bucky.. :D

Did anyone else take up this deal? hehe

I hope I get the $199 cashback too..would make my day!! :w00t:
• bigal2008/10/01 07:19:53
hmm i was procrastinating about this... and forgot to consider that the cashback may be a different rate as of today :|

what I wanted to check out was if the cashback was only through authorised resellers and if so, is oo.com.au an authorise reseller
• admin2008/10/01 07:36:24
buckscoop cashback will revert back to the usual at the end of the month bigal - not by anything we can control unfortunately although we are trying hard to change that. The acer cashback will be as per their terms and conditions.

Yeah, I wasn't sure about that part either.

But even if I can't..I'm happy with paying $950 for this little puppy :o
• bigal2008/10/01 14:59:05
did anyone get a print out from the website before they rang out of stock?
• queenshrew2008/10/01 15:39:33
I did.. but it's in hard copy.. I didn't save a copy in my HD.
• queenshrew2008/10/01 15:41:31
Wow.. it's sold out..I'll expire this offer then.

I guess lots of people (like me) couldn't resist and bought one..! :D
• bigal2008/10/01 16:22:26
hehe the missus like me procrastinating... means I miss out on all the good deals LOL

anyways, if I can get a copy of the ad I'll see if I can get a price match somewhere if I get the chance.
• queenshrew2008/10/01 16:44:51
If you really want a copy, I can try and scan for you..
But be warned, a scanned copy of the printout from my lovely ancient HP Lasetjet 4L will not be the greatest.. (this loyal printer has lived with me since I was little and I took it with me after I moved out from my parents'.. It's about 15 years old and still the best! Outlived every other printer I've ever owned!)

Sooo..anyway, I'm not sure how it'll turn out :p I can only try.. Let me know if you really want me to try and scan....
• tarajaneace2008/10/01 21:05:32
Great Price.

I paid $948 for the 5920 model a few months ago.. still battling it out with Acer to get my cashback (which will bring the computer down to $798)

I am happy with the computer. Looks good (most important!), runs good. Doesnt get too hot (is sitting on my bare thighs and its not burning).

Tara
• bigal2008/10/01 21:09:00
thanks for the offer queenshrew, its not that important. if i get a decent copy I *may* try for a price match from somewhere...

oh well, bring on the next great notebook buy :)
• queenshrew2008/10/06 16:13:14
Just updating..
Received this unit today.

Cashback offer is NOT valid.
There was no SNID on the box label.. and when I entered the SNID from the bottom of the laptop on the claim form it came up with: SNID has already been claimed!!!

I am 100% sure oo.com.au has not claimed it as everything was fully sealed and in 100% condition. I am happy with with my purchase, despite cashback not being valid.
I see this item selling for $1200+ Excluding postage at other places, and even after the $199 cashback (which you might wait 8-16 weeks for and might not get if you stuff up!) it still works out more expensive than what I have paid.

I worked out that what I paid was $935.10 Delivered from oo.com.au after last month's awesome 7.2% cashback which I have EVERYONE who shopped at oo.com.au last month to thank for! Thanks everyone! :D
• nod2008/10/06 17:22:41
Thanks for the update Queenshrew.
It seems a bit that the SNID came up as already claimed?? The only way that could happen is if OO.com.au cliamed it after they 'bought' it. But I would ave thought that that was not available on items purchased Wholesale??
Maybe contact OO.com.au and ask.
• lilpretzel2008/10/06 17:42:13
I TOTALLY agree with nod, If it was me I would ring Acer and get them to check who has made a claim on it.

You did get a bargain but if your able to claim the cashback from Acer it should be yours not somebody else.

Strange there was no SNID on the box.

;)
• queenshrew2008/10/06 18:55:24
I can't call up oo.com.au or Acer today, as they're both based in NSW and it's a public holiday in NSW today! haha

I know, cos I've tried :D

Hi queenshrew any news on this? what was Acer's or oo.com.au's response?
• queenshrew2008/10/13 11:32:53
oo.com.au never responded to my query.
Promised they would call back and never did.

I called Acer directly and Acer removed the original applicant so I can put my cashback claim in!

Will see how it goes..as I have no hardcopy docs, only photos etc. which I emailed in as told to by the cashback department.

Did you have a problem too?
• Boss13372008/10/13 11:38:05
thanks queenshrew for the speedy reply, I'm still waiting on oo.com.au to deliver my lap top,I guess I will end up in the same boat as you :(, hopefully Acer will honour the cash back, bit suss how the SNID wasn't on the box and how the SNID had already been claimed
• lilpretzel2008/10/13 11:49:59
Well that's very interesting QS, I would love to know who the claimant was?

Very slack on oo.com.au not to call you back, lately I have found the customer service to be very slow, 5 day's for my answer was shocking :)
• bigal2008/10/13 12:29:54
make sure you send your claim in via registered post to save any hassels down the track.
• queenshrew2008/10/13 12:31:52
Actually, I'm now highly suspicious that oo.com.au did the claim themselves!

Especially because the customer service rep told me she can't help me and told me she'll get a manager to call me back the next day.

The next day was last Thursday :p

I have just done my claim in hard copy and will post it off today. Despite the Acer cashback dept saying I just need to email my claim in. I have done it in hardcopy as well and will post it registered. I guess it doesn't hurt to be over-zealous! Now I'll just have to sit and wait for awhile... Will update on what's happening from my end.

Will be interesting to see how you go too, boss1337 :D
• Amar2008/10/15 01:42:56
Hi All,
I also got the laptop from OO with no SNID num, I also emailed them and i did get a reply saying "We would not remove any cashback label - if there was a label that was
removed then this was by Acer."

And "we would want to use the
cashback offer as an incentive to our customers if it was available to us.
However, we did not mention this cashback offer on the website the
computer was not sold with this offer."

I have now also emailed acer to find out for me who claimed mine.
Lets hope something comes out of our efforts
• admin2008/10/15 07:43:18

Welcome to Buckscoop Amar :)

Just letting you know.. their email replies take a long time - which might void your cashback claim by then (as I believe you need to apply within 14 days(?) of purchase -- I read this somewhere but need to check that up - plus you must send in your hardcopy within 30 days)

Try calling them instead.

Do keep us updated on what's happening. Would love to know how everyone else fared.
• queenshrew2008/12/05 16:40:15
I just wanted to update that I got my cheque for $199.00 cashback!!!

Thanks for all the input everyone!

Sooo thrilled!!! I took lots of photos and scans.

Hope others had the same luck!
• tarajaneace2008/12/05 16:50:49
I bought an acer 5920 from officeworks in July and although my cashback said it was to be completed by november 26th.. still no sign of it.

glad you got yours queenshrew
• Boss13372009/01/07 10:55:56
well it seems the on going saga of my cash back woes continues, after nearly 3 months? i finally got a response from Acer concerning my Service Request ticket about how my Cash back could not be completed online as the SNID said it had been claimed and that the box of the Laptop had no SNID for me to cut out and return, i explained the situation and was willing to provide proof of my SNID etc from the bottom of the computer but it seems Acer wants none of that and like to make things hard when it comes to honouring cash backs, all they have said to me is that the SNID was claimed by some one else and that if it wasn't claimed by me then oo.com.au did the claim themselves, oo.com.au deny using the SNID and lodging the cash back, all I know is I didn't use the SNID or claim the cash back and that the Laptop came perfectly sealed and unused , I really don't know what to do for my next cause of action but it looks like I'm going to be screwed out of the $199 rebate that I should be entitled to:mad:

queenshrew good to see atleast you got your cash back rebate
• nod2009/01/07 21:35:38
That does not sound right Boss1337 at all!
If oo.com.au claimed the cashback (and who else could it be) then they actually purchased the machine from Acer. So this means the machine is actually secondhand and MUST be labelled and sold as such!
I would be talking to the ACCC or the ombudsman about this. They can't claim the cashback and also state that the machine is new ... in my mind anyway
