Upgrading the ram to 2gig might be a good idea, +$78 from Dell or buy 1x2gig strip elseware and that will sort it nicely.

Coupon should be Valid Till: 30-APR-08 but may get pulled early if it costs dell too much ;-)

Gotta give that a hot vote :)

    Nice one Sandy
You will bag about $19 cashback too :)
  • leny2008/04/16 20:28:51
Would they give out the cashback with this being a special EmailCash offer?
  • nod2008/04/16 20:32:53
The discount code has no reference to EMC as far as I can see
  • leny2008/04/16 20:34:08
Can't see the big title when you visit the link nod? ;)

No need to use the link you posted Leny which wont get you bucky cashback, just put the ecode I posted into the ecode finder boxes to get to the deal, use the coupon just like any other at checkout.
  • nod2008/04/16 21:26:30
I am not 100% sure if this offer is available only to EMC members and if that is the case there may be a risk that Dell will not pay out for the sale.
But if you were interested then it would be worth a go
In my opinion, I am not sure why you would use the EMC offer Leny when they then pocket the cashback :(

Sorry Leny when I use the E-code I don't see a reference to EMC

I think sandgroper would have posted this deal after getting from the reward mail that EmailCash sent out this afternoon. And on the website there is a big sign Exclusive Offer To EmailCash Members.

I'll be buying this computer. Thanks for the promo code.

Just a quick question, if I buy a 1G ram elsewhere would that void the Dell warranty? how much is ram and install from a pc shop on average?

Also, can I give Dell my travel details to get GST free? or they don't do that and I have to claim at the airport?

    Thanks!
  • leny2008/04/16 23:08:16
It's probably not exclusive to members, but that's who they sent out out to. I'd assume they're not going to be doing checks because it's just a marketing technique.
  • nod2008/04/16 23:35:30
Thanks for the info Leny :)
Would be nice for Buckscoopers to get the cashback but we may have to wait and see

    Welcome Sal78 :flowers:

With regards to the GST claim all you need is a special type of invoice which you should be able to ask Dell for - they should not need your travel details. That is, you would pay GST and then claim it back at the airport.

And with the RAM I am not 100% sure but I would think that if you altered the spec of the machine with anything that was not done by Dell this would certainly affect the warranty. Best to ask them the direct question though to be honest but I would be surprised if it didn't
  • nod2008/04/16 23:39:37
Sal78 here is a bit more info and a telephone number you can use :)
  • Wally2008/04/16 23:58:25
Sandy has posted Coupon codes supposedly exclusive to Bigpond members in the past that hasn't seemed to cause any problems.
Hopefully it is likely to be a similar deal with this code and the Bucky cashback if you use the link and ecode method

You wont void the warranty on your dell by changing the memory parts, in fact dell even show you how to remove and replace the sodimms in the manual available in the support section.
However the ram you install will not unless dell supply it be covered under your warranty.

Should your notebook need to be repaired and the fault is found to be the non dell ram has broken then I would think dell could charge you for any repair but as they do a telephone diagnostic before anything else the faulty ram would become obvious and you could then remove it and the laptop would still run on 1 strip assuming you do as I suggested and just buy 1x2gig strip from elseware to up the total ram to 2.5gig.

Around $50 should buy you 1x2GB sodimm suitable for the 1525, you will of course still then have the original 512meg part available to fit back should you need to return the notebook to dell for any reason.

The 1525 has two user-accessible SODIMM sockets, DIMM A and DIMM B, accessed from the bottom of the computer, just undo a few screws as in the detail in this link.

Yeah, as sandgroper said, you don't void the warranty if you take the alternate RAM out if it needs to be serviced. How are they going to know?

Nevertheless, excellent deal at the moment. The CPU and Screen upgrade over the $749 model is well worth it.

Tested still working @ $698.50 delivered today.
  • sal782008/04/19 16:59:26
I ordered mine yesterday afternoon and the code was stillw orking.

Upgraded to the T5550 and 160HDD with free 1440X900 display upgrade an dfree bluetooth for total price of $875.60. It's such a bargain.

The most difficult decision was choosing a colour...took me a whole day to decide. In the end I went with white.

thank you so much for the deal!

  • Keeys2008/04/25 16:07:05
I need a deal like this when we get our tax refund. We were looking into another PC but have decided a laptop would save a huge amount of space in our very small loungeroom. We already have one laptop and a PC that works but is slow and has issues.

Fingers crossed for something like this when we are looking for one. I bought this laptop from Dell last yeat after tax ;)
  • Croft2008/04/27 09:05:36
Thanks, I bought one (with a few upgrades)! Great deal!
