is there a way to see if this is compatible with my computer?
I'm guessing it wouldn't be as its 240-pin and mine seems to be a 184-pin?
  • sandgroper2007/12/28 01:53:37
Yes there is, go here http://www.kingstonmemory.net.au/kingston_configurator.php and enter your pc details.

But as it seems yours is 184 pin which is DDR ram and that means this offer is not for your pc, sorry

why would the physical limit be 3.5 gig sandy? I didnt think you could run different chip sizes together and most machines dont have more than 4 RAM ports (but I could be totally wrong)?
  • sandgroper2007/12/28 10:34:49
Its all to do with the basic set of rules set down in the dark ages before windows 3.1

The range of addresses was limited as nobody ever thought in those days we would have even 1gig of ram let alone 4gig. So some physical adresses are taken by cards etc so not enough left for all 4 gig of ram if fitted.
The bios will report it all there but windows will report maybe 3.5gig with say 3.2 gig available

Its been addressed in 64bit OS like Vista 64bit and later mobo chipsets, but not in the usual run of the mill OS we have.

If you need more info then google please cause I am at my limit now ;-)

They had similar issues with hard disk sizes back when they started jumping in size but it was down MS and not the bios ( although the latter sometimes needed updating)

Ha - thats interesting. Just googled. Its a limitation on 32 bit processing. Jump to 36 bit and you can run 64 gig of RAM.

Sorry sandgroper, perhaps I missed your comment on free delivery in the first post... either that or you've added it since.

    If the former my apologies!
  • sandgroper2007/12/28 18:57:01
It was only the free delivery option that made the post worthy, of course it was there from when I posted
