The big pain in the arse is that the tickets can not be booked online. Can only buy them in the actual cinema. At least with Greater Union cinemas.

Can't help wonder if this is because someone very early in their last promotion phoned them for a free voucher?

The last time they did this their website made no reference of "specially marked" and the packaging was nowhere near as well marked as it is now (just a gold G).

Nice to see this promotion - and nice to see they have improved it
• dealhunter0814/08/2008
has anyone tried to use this? does it work with ALL movies? I want to see the x-files movie but online it says that it can't be used with some sort of promotion. I know you can't use these online and I am not trying to, the place I sourced the information was online.

I think he wants the numbers off the packet, not for someone to mail the actual wrapper...

You do need the actual wrapper as far as their instructions go.
• voteoften15/08/2008
Good grief! That was his first post. Give him a break!

Welcome to buckscoop.

terrence, if you are really keen on getting a barcode, there are a number of other ways to get it.

funny thing with the internet, you'll find absolutely everything online.... just gotta learn to find it.

if you cannot find it online, you can goto your local milk bar, servo, supermarket and pickup a magnum and punch in the barcode number onto your phone dail it and hang up. when you go home you'll have it in your dialed number history.

Think they say full priced ticket. Worth a shot if you smile nicely :D
• voteoften14/09/2008
I have used this twice this week. The second time there was a delay with my GU gift card that I had bought on ebay so I had the opportunity to stand around and observe for several minutes. A couple that was using the offer did not offer any wrappers, just the print out from the magnum deal.

BTW - the giftcard was scratched. The card had $106 left on it. The ticket dude sold me my ticket for $6 (vs $15.50) and gave me a new gift card for $100 (that one good until Sept 2009), so the delay was profitable.

Bumping due to school holidays, although in WA and perhaps SA, you can not enter unless you are over 18. So it may not be good for primary and secondary school students in those states.

I have used this deal 3 times in about 3 weeks. Each time they have asked for my wrapper. I make them ask though since seeing the couple who wasn't asked.

The T&C says not for advance bookings. This does not mean you can only buy seats for that day though. I think you can buy them about a week out. I have bought a block of tickets for a session later this week.

You must go to the cinema to buy them if you are going Greater Union. This can lead to disappointment as this offer is hugely popular. A good way to see what your chances are is to go to the website and act as if you are buying. You then get to choose your seats and this will show you how many seats are available. A bit of my experience from today - the session showed two seats available, side by side. When I got to the cinema, there were actually three seats available. The single did not show up on my screen at home. I know that a lot of people do not go to the cinema by themselves, but I thought I would throw that out there.
• nod30/09/2008
Sounds like you are making the most of the offer VO, well done :D

The only thing better with this offer is if you could eat that Magnum while you're there!

Actually, I just thought of something... maybe I can! LOL, I think I'll go past a 7-Eleven tomorrow on my way to work, jot down the barcode, and then claim my voucher and print it out at work. Then tomorrow night, when it's time to actually go watch the movie, I'll actually buy the Magnum that I'll eat and redeem together with my print-out... :P

LOL! I'm sure somewhere between now and this evening, I will be able to find two specially-marked Magnums somewhere in this city. :P

For anyone else who's going to do this, the last 4 digits of the barcode is: 5417

(I figure there's no problem posting that barcode here because in the end, you'll still need to buy a Magnum to redeem this offer. But if mods feel this is inappropriate nonetheless, please feel free to edit this post.)
