    a lot of cheapo LCD "widescreen" TVs are 16:10 instead of 16:9, i guess because they are using cheap 1680 x 1050 LCD panels made for computer monitors... true HDTV is 1920 x 1080, and picture quality can really suffer when the TV has to scale the image to match the actual pixels on the LCD panel... in this case you would have to choose between a smaller picture with some black bars, or a slightly stretched picture... like with all LCD screens, you get the best picture quality when the source resolution exactly matches the native resolution of the panel... it's also likely that the vertical refresh rate of this TV doesn't go down to 50Hz either which may make some kinds of picture movement a bit juddery (basically because Australia uses 50Hz AC power)...
