sorry, for most people this is an awful idea... if you cannot afford to buy a computer outright then you certainly cannot afford to "RentSmart"... it would be cheaper to put a computer on a credit card than to use "RentSmart"...

here's some basic figures: for starters to be eligible for the "free" TV you must sign up for a 36 or 48 month rental contract... if you rent a $2000 computer, the payments are: 36 month contract: $101.09 per month = $3639.24 so effectively you are paying $1639.24 in interest over the 3 years, or 27.3% every year... 48 month contract: $81.78 per month = $3925.44 which is $1925.44 in interest over 4 years, or 24.1% interest every year... in some business scenarios these rental contracts might make sense, otherwise they are a great way to stay poor...

i just checked and the same interest rates apply for a $1500 computer too...

I think you'll find that this offer is targeted to people who can claim it as a tax deduction…

well, i think the offer is targeted at anyone silly enough to not know any better... there are also several other onerous aspects of the RentSmart system, including the provisions for what happens at the end of the contract, e.g. if you want to then "buy" the computer from them... even after all those payments, you have to pay even more if you want to keep the computer...

What do you think?
