Sandy I am thinking of replacing my aging Inspiron 1720. Is this Vostro 3700 ok for gaming?

Take a look here for gaming benchmarks. Notebookcheck: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M The Vostro range are not really marketed as gaming platforms so it wont be top spec in that department, if its just light gaming at not too high res then I guess it should be satisfactory. Both the 8600M and the GT330M are class 2 graphics chips. Check out some reviews where they try playing games your interested in playing before parting with your cash.

Thanks Sandgroper As you say, my current Inspiron has a class 2 Nvidia 8600M GT - a great card in its time The GT330M would be an improvement, but I think I'll aim higher. I note the Studio 17 laptops only come with ATI cards. Given my experience with ATI desktop cards (overheating, unreliable) I'll try to stick to Nvidia... Great web site you gave the link to - will be very useful. Thanks again.
