About the Sydney Royal Easter Show

The annual Sydney Royal Easter Show was first held all the way back in 1823, and is organised by the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW. But while the Royal Easter Show has retained its focus on Australian agriculture through the years, these days of course it’s about much more than that.

Foodies, thrill seekers and shopaholics young and old are treated to a two-week carnival of fun and entertainment that no other event in the calendar can come close to matching.

Getting your Royal Easter Show tickets

There are various ticket options depending on which part(s) of the Sydney Royal Easter Show you’re interested in visiting. By booking for the end of March you can get a 10% off “Early Bird” booking discount on the basic ShowLink admission prices for individuals, or 20% off on a Showlink Family ticket. For a better deal still, there’s now a 25% off discount code on Buckscoop’s Vouchers page that’ll get you the best deal around at the moment.

Purchase your Early Bird tickets before the end of the month, as well as apply the 25% off code, and you can pay just $28.80 per adult (versus $34.60 before 1 April), 17.60 for kids (versus $21.10) and $99.20 for a family ticket valid for two adults and two children (versus $111.60).

All tickets include return public transport on the day, while kids aged three or under get in free of charge. There is also a Showlink After 5pm ticket should you only want to go along in the evening – these are available from 4pm on the day in question.

RAS membership

Alternatively, you could sign up to the RAS itself and enjoy full access to the Royal Easter Show for the full two weeks. Membership costs a compulsory one-off $97, or $25 for juniors, then you pay $144 annually if you’re a Sydney resident, or $103 if not, while under 18s pay $63 per year.

That’s a fair bit of cash altogether, but aside from free unlimited entry and return transport for the duration of the Show you also get access to special members’ dining and entertainment areas, priority parking options, various member discounts and other deals and discounts throughout the year.

New in 2014

Showgoers have been promised 2014′s Show will be “bigger and better than ever”, though that’s what you’d expect organisers to say about their own event. If you’re after specifics, the all-new Dinosaur Adventures exhibition certainly qualifies as “bigger”. The interactive walk-through exhibit is decked out with life-sized animated dinosaurs that roar, breathe and stomp about in a themed forest just like the real thing, we’re told.

There’s a fossil-finding adventure for the kids to enjoy, and trained staff will help satisfy the curiosity of younger minds by teaching them all about the creatures great and small that occupied our planet millions of years ago.

Also new is Goin’ Ape – Gorillas in our Midst, a world-renowned show featuring a family of four ultra-realistic gorilla performers that look and behave just like the real thing, while the new evening entertainment showpiece, Australiana in all its Glory, is a celebration of everything Australian, culminating in a 12-minute fireworks finale.Sydney Royal Easter Show Preview

There’s also the Farmyard Nursery where kids can get up close and personal with a variety of farmyard friends, and a huge array of food and drink vendors serving all kinds of culinary delights to suit all budgets and tastes – ranging from the mainstream Sydney Royal Cafe and Sydney Royal Beer and Wine Garden to a whole host of individual stalls offering their own tasty treats.

And shopaholics be warned – the Royal Easter Show is a true shopper’s paradise, whether you’re talking arts and crafts, fashion, home and garden, sporting goods, art or the latest technology gadgets and gizmos.
