Whether you’re attending the Melbourne Cup Carnival 2013 for the first time or you’re a regular goer, if you haven’t already booked your accommodation then you need to continue reading. Below you’ll find a selection of Melbourne hotel deals in the surrounding areas of Flemington racecourse which offer good value right now.
Note, I’ve based my findings on the booking period from Saturday 2nd to Saturday 9th of November for a couple sharing a room. I’ve also specified the average nightly rate for each hotel room to give you a reference as to what you’ll need to budget for. You can use these rates to estimate the required expenditure on accommodation for the dates that suit you best.
First up is a 20% off deal showing on the Travelodge Docklands Melbourne Hotel where you can book a double room through Olotels.com for this period at a cost of $975. This works out at about $139 per night on average. You’ll need to hurry though as right now it’s showing as only having two rooms left at this price. After which your next cheapest option is the twin standard room for $1036. The double room if booked through Expedia or HotelTravel.com would cost you $1233 (or $176 per night). The Travelodge Docklands is about 5km’s away from Flemington and 9kms form the Melbourne Aquarium – should you wish to visit another famous attraction in the city during your stay.
Next is the 4 star, family-friendly Novotel Melbourne St Kilda Hotel where there’s a good offer available through HotelTravel.com showing 30% off their previously listed rates. A superior king room will cost you $1284 for the 7 night stay, or approximately $183 per night. This is good value when compared with Expedia and Hotels.com’s deals for bookings of the same room type at a cost of $1631. This eco-hotel is slightly further away, about 13kms from Flemington, but situated is near the beach in St. Kilda which may have a greater appeal to some visitors.
A more economic option if you’re on a tighter budget, or perhaps you see a hotel as somewhere to simply lay your head at night, the Budget 1 Hotel is worth checking out. It offers compact yet comfortable accommodation where a “budget double room” will cost $697 for the 7 night stay. That’s less than $100 per night on average which is a decent rate for a hotel in this city during the Melbourne Cup week. Despite the room’s compact dimensions of just 14 sq/meters, the cleverly designed layout means you still get plenty of facilities (desk, seating area, shower, toilet, bathroom, DVD play & flat screen TV, tea/coffee maker, refrigerator, and microwave). The hotel itself is also about 9kms away from the racetrack.
Lastly, another hotel option offering good value is the Bayview Eden Melbourne hotel, located next to the beautiful Albert Park Lake and Golf Course and around 11kms away from the Flemington. Through Olotels.com, you’ll find the cheapest rate for a week’s stay in a superior double room at just $735. This saves you more than $100 compared with booking through either Hotels.com (at $875) or Booking.com (at $848). If you want breakfast thrown in you’ll need to pay an extra $14 per person per night. The hotel features a rooftop health club as well as a chic cocktail bar and restaurant called “Niche Cafe”. So in terms of the quality of this establishment, you’re getting great value for $105 per night through Olotels.com.
